I do remember Tom actively campaiging for BillyBob Clinton and Al Gore. He has also been very vocal regarding "environmental" issues (WE ARE ALL GONNA DIE!) and he had some nasty things to say about Mormons and other "bible thumpers" about Prop 8.

I'm only surprised that so many people are surprised at "Our Jimmy Stewart's" remarks. Never have I seen Tom Hanks give any indication he was anything more than a typical Hollywood leftie. Band of Brothers was great, but was adapted from a well-researched book. Tom is regurgitating all his brain has absorbed about history in these interviews.
