Yes I was impressed. Are you saying that you didn't feel an emotional connection with the characters? It does have quite a bit to say about parenting and not being one a suppose I can feel a bit of a disconnect there.

Reign of Beasts ? Haven't heard of that one *looks over me shoulder for signs of vengeful lamias* :D. Mistification is Kaaron's book? Saladin Ahmed's book was recently brought to my attention by the Waldorf and Statler of scifi pod casting (Jonathan and Gary), but Coming of the Whirlpool I have not heard of. Thanks Thoraiya

Saw you mention elsewhere that you don't get enough comments when you review Gosh don't I sound self centred :). I think comments on reviews is a general problem for most bloggers. Reviews soak up more time than any other blog post yet often are the least commented on. Oh and I LOVE the comments I do get and commenters who are regulars . I've been yapping about When We Have Wings to everyone who will listen, so I guess you weren't listening I need to broaden my information gathering net obviously B) (you are not on twitter are you) I guess the only answer to the issue is to try and get a book that you think deserves attention up on the radar, perhaps through semi regular posting.

Things We Didn't See coming never heard of it..... :D I note that I get most of my book recommendations from pod casts, namely Galactic Suburbia and Coode Street. I never developed a taste of cultural affiliate with any of the broadsheets either so I really have no signposts for contemporary literature. My studies at university consisted of Elizabethan, 19th Century American and a smattering of Science Fiction. Claire Corbett mentioned that despite getting a glowing review in Aurealis, she didn't detect much of a buzz (paraphrasing here) in the community. Is this because the community is fragmented on state lines?

I'll read the entire trilogy as I'd like to see what she's going to do now that she's populated the world and given us such a vivid picture. It does move slowly to begin with and if you have issues with present tense it might put you off.

I might try and chase down the book she speaks about in the afterword - an out of print publication about the horrors of Hiroshima to see how much of the visual description is based on historical fact.

Its worth her checking out the Mobileread forums. Is it an old kobo with the big directional button? If I wasn't renovating we might have bought a more powerful tablet like Samsung or an Asus. Never been much of an apple fan :)

I was sorely tempted by the Kindle, especially the 3G version but I find that the majority of the works I read actually come in epub. That and as I mentioned I want to have something that can handle both formats. I would have been happy for the Vox to be dependant on my computer :)
