Fire Brand of the American League : Terry Francona confirms Jacoby Ellsbury move to left field

Barajas is not a bad idea, but with the problems he has been having, bringing in Russell Martin as less than a full time catcher could work to restore his health and hitting skills. If he and Salty split the role, each would benefit at point in their careers, and the team would get a chance to see what Salty can do, and see whether Martin can turn it around. If both do well, help the team while rebuilding their value, that would be a very good problem for Tito and Theo, especially as internal candidates develop.

Fire Brand of the American League : Red Sox and Adrian Beltre Agree to Terms

Interesting points about Werth.

But I think your suggestion of using Ellsbury as a fourth outfielder instead of starting in center makes little sense. Cameron is in decline and in the last stages of wrapping up a fine career. Ellsbury isn't a prospect -- he is a proven entity with significant up-side. Playing Ellsbury every day serves the Sox' interests, both in the short term (wins) and long term (in building up Ellsbury's trade value).

Finally, I think Kalish belongs in this discussion, ahead of Darnell, again, because of age. Darnell did a good job last year, but the guy will be 32 next year. We aren't likely to get more from him than we've seen. Kalish has seen his numbers improve as he rose through the minors, and showed a lot in his major league intro last year. He won't turn 23 until the Sox break camp next spring. This kid has a lot of upside and doesn't need another year in the minors.

I'm no Sawx aficionado, but have been a fan since Hobson, Burleson, & Remy were in the infield. Wonder why Charlie wrote about Lowrie after Youk, Paps, Drew, and Papi? One of those things is not like the others ... Lowrie. I asked Charlie to cover him. Lowrie's underated. If he were in KC or Atlanta he'd be a very good 2B (bat & glove). But he's not Wally Pipping Pedroia and wouldn't the Sox play Youk at 3B before Lowrie (assumes Lars or a FA). MAYBE he supplants Scutaro, but it feels like Lowrie is more valuable to you guys as an Omar Infante type. Good stick. Good attitude. Versatile.

Fire Brand of the American League : One $9 Million Question Answered, One More Arises

So sun only affects Jacoby Ellsbury? I know the pink hats think the sun shines solely on him, but it's ridiculous. Ellsbury is a visibly bad fielder. He gets terrible jumps on anything forward/backward, and his speed often cannot save him. We need a few more years of data to be 100%, but by no means is he a good fielder.
