Big Hollywood : Gamechanger?: How Would You Like to Cancel Your Obnoxiously Expensive Cable Service?

It's also not uncommon to find a computer with an HDMI output for connecting to televisions. I just bought a Windows tablet a couple of months ago and it has one. Very easy to hook it up and use it to stream to my TV if I want to.

Big Hollywood : SyFy's 'Being Human' One of the Best Conservative Shows on TV

I've avoided this show because the track record for American versions of British shows isn't that great and the track record for SyFy shows isn't that great and when you combine the two things you have the makings for epic fail but maybe I should give it a try anyway.

Big Hollywood : The Politics of 'Star Trek': 'Patterns of Force'

Well, Star Trek was known for being rather ham-handed. Witness the anti-racism episode with the two aliens who are black on one side of their bodies and white on the other.

Big Hollywood : 'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island 3D' Review: Surprisingly Hilarious Family-Friendly Film

I'm conflicted about this because the trailers do look like it might be a fun movie but at the same time I'd like to see a good, faithful adaptation of The Mysterious Island which this obviously is not. Really, if Hollywood is going to so alter something that it's going to effectively be an original work I don't see why they don't just take the extra step of actually making it something original.

Big Hollywood : Madonna Targeted for Being Older and Female

I've disliked Madonna since the 80s when my friends and I would refer to her as "Madingdong." I did have one friend who liked her music and the rest of us frequently cited this as proof that his taste was suspect. and not to be trusted. So there is a remote possibility that my current dislike for the former Mrs. Sean Penn is based on something other than her age.

Big Hollywood : 'A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas' Blu-ray Review: Lovers of the Stoner Genre Will Be Pleased

The first one had a production budget of $9 million and made $24 million worldwide. That's not huge numbers but it's still a profit. The second one had a production budget of $12 million and made $43 million world wide. That may not be Blair Witch Project money but it's still a decent profit and given the increase in box office for the second Harold & Kumar movie it's not surprising that a third got a greenlight. And, of course, that's just box office. I'd be interested in seeing what the DVD sales numbers have been like.

Big Hollywood : William Shatner Dishes on Khan, George Takei and El Rushbo

They were real people yet tales of them have reached mythic proportions. Compare, for example, the Alamo against the Battle of Thermopylae. As anyone who's seen 300 knows, Thermopylae really happened but that doesn't mean it's not a mythic story. We take stories about real events and then we "improve" them. The heroes become more heroic, the villains more despicable, the odds grow longer, the situation more dire. Even when Boone and Crockett and Earp were alive, they were already being turned into mythical beings through penny dreadfuls and dime novels that greatly exaggerated their exploits and that process continues today through modern westerns that don't let reality get in the way of telling a good story. Of course if you want to limit mythology to fictional characters, we have our share of those as well as rawktapus pointed out; Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, Johnny Appleseed, Pecos Bill, and John Henry for example.

Today he's self-deprecating but in the past he has been rather full of himself. George Takei, Walter Koenig, James Doohan, and Nichelle Nichols have all had less than flattering things to say about Shatner and his overinflated ego from working with him on Star Trek.

The Shat is wrong. This country does have a mythology and it is invoked by names like Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett, Billy the Kid, and Wyatt Earp.
