Love ya Renee, but... if Ophelia were a free individual walking the sdtreets of wherever here in the US, do you seriously think the attempt to cut off his penis would be carred out. And if he did make such an attempt, who then would be responsible for providing the funds for a sex change?

I mean look at it this way...

When a child molester goes to prison, would it be acceptable for the state to perform castrations? Some may say yes it would as far as "treatment" because, well, the child molester too has a problem. The difference being that such an individual is deemed a threat to society. Ophelia on the other hand? Not at all. But like I mentioned in the post: it's a damn shame that a man who practices Islam isn't allowed to wear a beard in the very same state, but yet someone with a "disorder" should be allowed the luxury (because it is prison) of being allowed hormonal treatment, and are now being sued to provide one inmate with a sex change. To me, no matter how it's framed it's ridiculous. Hell, one of the Scott sisters needed a kidney transplant while in prison, but did she get it?

You have got to be kidding me! I speculated that she may be Black but even more possibly be a Latina. And now that it's confirmed, the first thing they focused on was her looks and beauty? This is friggin unreal! Lord forbid the hotel maid in the rape case involving the head of the IMF doesn't have her picture revealed. I don't know her ehtnicity, but suffice it to say, I won't be surprised if she is judged much like the woman pictured above.

I hear this and I hear the now infamous "Illegals In My Yard" spoof of "Feliz Navidad" Christmas carol that a right-wing group here in America put out a couple of years ago. That shit wasn't funny then, and this isn't right now - it's unacceptable, and it damn sure isn't funny.

Jesus friggin Christ! Why doesn't she jus dig a hole and bury herself in it? I mean I understand what she was trying to say. But I think she worded it improperly on Monday; and even worse today!

Thanks for the heads up on the numbers, Kevin. I had no idea about the increase among "our folk". But I did read about the national decline. I'm linking this in a new post today. Thanks so much again, my man.

I'm like you, I do a lot of shopping especially in the winter online. But for some reason for the last 3yrs all I buy are jeans. Shoot, I have jeans in my closet that I have to wear, and next week I'm sure I'll be ordering some more. This time I think I'll switch it up and get some button down shirts - my wife would love that.

I almost posted on this yesterday. I like your take on it. Mine is going to be typical of what I do. Shit, I'm more amazed that people actually follow Scott Baio. However, what you said here was nothing but the truth. He used the old "Hey I went to gym with a black guy," line in his defense and it was wack.

Good post!

So what are your thoughts on the woman who allowed herself to be used in this campaign?

BTW: I'm linking this post in something I just put up on my blog because I think it's related.

The thing that concerns me, is that for black folks in particular, is that we are invisible when it comes to speaking up for the rights of other minorities. There was a time when we were quick to voice concerns about racial profiling and other systematic racial infractions. I think we should be equally was vigilant and concerned about it happening to other groups. I could remember voicing this to a friend after 9/11 and the passing of The Patriot Act. But I was told that it was a good thing that the problem is being shared.

So foolish
