Big Hollywood : 'Man on a Ledge' Latest Hollywood Hit Job on the Rich

"Personally, I liked the University; they gave us money and facilities, we didn't have to produce anything. You've never been out of college. You don't know what it's like out there. I've worked in the private sector--they expect results!" -Dan Ackroyd's character Dr Raymond Stantz in "Ghostbusters"

Big Hollywood : Left and Right Unite Against Hollywood's Failed SOPA Overreach

This is the last line of Dodd's letter in response to online opposition to SOPA: "It is our hope that the White House and the Congress will call on those who intend to stage this “blackout” to stop the hyperbole and PR stunts and engage in meaningful efforts to combat piracy." Dodd's accusing others of hyperbole is rich, considering he wrote following in his letter: "... technology business interests are resorting to stunts that punish their users or turn them into their corporate pawns." " It is...an abuse of power..." " It’s a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as gateways to information intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests." "A so-called “blackout” is yet another gimmick, albeit a dangerous one, designed to punish elected and administration officials..." Chris Dodd is nothing more than a power-hungry, corrupt elitist. Reading his letter, one can almost hear him screaming, "My intentions are good and besides, I know best!" His letter would be laughable if it weren't so obvious that he believes every single word it says. He actually accuses others of "an abuse of power" because they're using their God-given right to free speech and standing up to prevent a bad law from being passed. What an a$$h0le.

Big Hollywood : The 10 Best Terrible Songs of 2011

I have a hard time saying anything bad about Selena Gomez. A buddy of mine directed her in a small, independent kid's film several years ago, called "Brain Zapped!" before Disney snapped her up. It took a few years to complete the film editing since it was low budget, so by the time he was finished with it, Gomez was with Disney and well on her way to becoming a star. But my friend still kept in touch with Gomez's family. He was talking to Gomez's mother one day and mentioned that his little girl was having a birthday party that weekend. The day of the party, his phone rang and it was Selena Gomez, calling to wish his daughter a happy birthday. He put her on speaker so all the girls could hear, and he said it just made his daughter's day -- and her friends thought it was the most incredible thing that she knew Selena Gomez. Obviously, Gomez didn't have to call. It's not like my friend is a "big time" producer she needed to impress, and by that time she was plenty busy with Disney. I thought it said a lot about her that she would take a moment to call and wish a little girl happy birthday. Even though her music isn't my taste, I think she has real talent and staying power.

Big Hollywood : 'Hollywood Reporter': Did Liberal Sucker Punches Kill 'Happy Feet Two'?

I totally agree with you, and that's why I was so happy to have found this: http://declarationentertainment.com/ It was founded by Bill Whittle, one of my favorite conservative bloggers/commentators. They have two films in the pipeline now, and they're funding comes totally from "citizen producers" who are tired of the same old same old coming out of Hollywood. I highly recommend you check out the site.

Thank you Mr. Nolte, for recommending "Garbo Talks." I would recommend this film to my friends, and nobody had ever heard of it. I remember seeing it back when I was younger, maybe 14 or so. It was on television - maybe on HBO or something - and I stumbled upon it. Once I started watching I was hooked. Couldn't leave the couch until it was over. I've always wanted to see it again. Now I'm off to program the DVR!

"...the press has been treating the OWS crowd with the "Awwww - Aren't they cute" attitude that they would bring to a story on a box of kittens." I was listening to the radio the other week and a women called in about the OWS protest. She owned a cafe right across the street from where the protesters were camping out. She said she'd been losing business steadily since the protest started, and that many of the OWS'ers had come into her restaurant, carrying bags of their own human waste, asking if she could "throw it away" for them. Others wanted to use her restrooms. She explained that the restrooms were for paying customers only - it costs money to maintain them, pay for the water, paper towels, soap, etc. They weren't just free. When the OWS'ers were denied use of the restrooms, they shouted they would "boycott" her. Her response was, "How can you boycott me!? You're not buying anything to begin with!" She said since then her staff had been threatened and yelled at, and she had to put a lock on the restrooms. It was really something listening to the frustration in this woman's voice. She was losing money every day on a business she'd worked hard to build and keep running. But because she wouldn't let some punks throw their fecal matter away in her restaurant, she was being targeted by them. You'd never hear this woman being interviewed on the MSM. Nope. It's all about how the OWS'ers are planting flowers in the park and eating smoked salmon. Adorable.

Big Hollywood : 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' and Suicide By Celeb-Reality Expectations

The sneering remarks about this man's wife prove just how far we've fallen. Her husband killed himself for crying out loud. Why would she not be worthy of our prayers and sympathy? Because she's had plastic surgery? Because we don't like the way she looks in a picture? Because she's on a reality show? We feel sorry for the man who took his life because he couldn't face the scrutiny of the viewing public and the inevitable snide, anonymous comments that were sure to be made about him once the show's producers had their way in the edit suite. We claim the network executives have no decency. And then we rip apart this man's widow, labeling her a "hideous" "Bankrupt Barbie" with "no soul." And others just click away on that little thumbs-up button to show their approval of such callousness. Perhaps that's the biggest morality tale in all of this.

Big Hollywood : Colbert: 'I Am a SuperPAC'

What liberals and Colbert fail to comprehend is that he has inadvertently proved the point of the Citizens United case. The “media exemption,” is nothing new. It’s been around for decades, and media companies have always been able to spend tons of money on campaign speech. So if media companies can do that, why can’t other corporations? That was the point of the Citizens United case. Campaign finance laws are nearly impossible to understand, and as a result they limit speech. Even Colbert complained, "Why does it get so complicated to do this? I mean, this is page after page of legalese.” Again, Colbert – in his attempt to mock the Supreme Court’s decision – was actually agreeing with it. The Court ruled that Federal laws had created "71 distinct entities" which were “subject to different rules for 33 different types of political speech." The FEC has nearly 600 pages of regulations and it takes literally thousands of pages to explain what the laws even mean. In his attempt to make fun of a Supreme Court ruling which said that campaign finance laws were so numerous and perplexing that it made it incredibly difficult for people to exercise their freedom of speech, Colbert and his team of powerful corporate attorneys spent months trying to convince the FEC that he should be able to exercise his freedom of speech to make fun of the Supreme Court's ruling. Isn’t campaign finance law hilarious?

This is a lengthy reply, but I think you're missing an important point. Bill Maher would never agree to apologize for the things he says about Sarah Palin, because in Hollywood it's okay to make fun of Sarah Palin (and her entire family). Plus, as a conservative, Breitbart would defend Maher's right to make fun of her (that whole "I don't agree with what you say but I defend your right to say it thing). Now, Breitbart, or anyone else, can be offended and complain and ridicule in response. But that's not the same thing as saying that nobody should be allowed to make fun of Palin. Plus, there is no right-wing organization that anyone in Hollywood would agree to hold a press conference with in order to apologize to any conservative. And there are no left-wing organizations demanding anyone in Hollywood hold a press conference to apologize to the "Special Needs Community" when someone on the left makes fun of Trig Palin, or to the "African American Community" when someone on the left makes fun of Clarence Thomas, or the "Female Community" when someone on the left calls a female conservative commentator a s-lu-t (in that case some in the "female community" were perfectly okay with it). I didn't even hear much of a peep from the "Gay Community" when someone called Breitbart a f--g. GLAAD has a right to complain about Morgan's joke. But the fact that he felt compelled to apologize numerous times, and (as the man in the video said) "promise to be supportive of [the gay] community" from now on is the point of all this. Morgan is doing his "forgiveness is divine" tour to save his career. A simple "I'm sorry" isn't enough. Because in Hollywood, a comedian joking about killing Sarah Palin is just "comedy" and it's clearly not meant to be taken as an actual threat and people should just get over it - because after all, Sarah Palin is stupid. But another comedian joking about killing a hypothetical, non-existent gay son promotes violence against all homosexuals and requires that comedian to be publicly shamed, and promise to always be positive about gays and "supportive" of their community. That's the double standard.

Big Government : Weiner Press Conference Open Thread: UPDATE: 'I Apologize to Andrew Breitbart'

Weiner's defense? He didn't violate the Constitution. He just attempted to cover up the fact he send lewd photos and messages to women he "did not know," lied about it repeatedly and put his staff in a position where they were made into liars as well. But hey, this is a "personal matter" and he should just be able to say he's sorry. Because everyone knows that personal morals only count if there's an "R" after your name. The media and the left will paint this as "consensual adult activity that broke no laws" and Weiner will be portrayed as a victim of Breitbart and his "right wing smear machine."
