Antiwar.com Blog : OK, so who DID they slaughter?

"...must have been just cattle." Ha! I chuckled, then realized how perversely true this is. Unless, as I suspect, people would be more horrified at the thoughtless obliteration of innocent cattle than the destruction of a person's life.

Antiwar.com Original Articles : Stirring the Bosnian Pot

John: Honestly, Turkey's refusal to acknowledge the Armenian genocide for what it is makes my stomach turn, as does our government's cowardly decision to downplay it in the interest of politics. Its crimes against Kurds and Cypriots are notorious, as well. But my response to Bonnie's comment was kind of a knee-jerk reaction to the notion that some people are less "civilized" than others on the basis of ethnicity or religion; that's the type of superiority complex that results in ethnic cleansing and genocide. I mentioned Turkey's secular government to point out that it's unlikely they intend to revive the Ottoman empire, which was Islamic.

Right. You don't seem to actually KNOW anything about the country, just forming misguided opinions on the basis of Turkey = Muslim, Muslim = savage, etc, and some centuries-old grudge. Turkey is a strictly secular country. So secular, in fact, that religion is suppressed in the government and military, and discriminatory laws are used against citizens who openly practice their faith. "There is NO meeting ground between the islamic courtries and the advanced civilized West" Gosh, it's too bad the Armenian genocide wasn't impressive enough to guarantee Turkey's entry into Europe's Uber-Civilized Holocaust Club.

News From Antiwar.com : Netanyahu Rules Out East Jerusalem Freeze

You're probably pissed off now, because Israel is a total dick and our government is completely impotent; but imagine, for a second, that you're a Palestinian in Israel's way. That anger, the utter hopelessness, the knowledge that you have no recourse, no rights, no value and no way out - THAT is what motivates 20 year olds to become suicide bombers. A recruiter convincing them that it's religiously sanctioned is just a bonus. For God's sake, sometimes I've lost the will to live just by reading these things.

So what you're saying is, although this is an unjustified war and an illegal occupation, it's THEIR fault for fighting back. Well, maybe Iraqis have the same "fuck you" attitude towards the soldiers after seeing "countless numbers of their friends killed or maimed" by an invading army. Would you have the same attitude about the deaths of embedded American reporters, because they were stupid enough to be in the presence of US soldiers who are - whether we like it or not - legitimate targets? The same reporters who cheered on the war and refer to Iraqi civilian deaths as "collateral damage". The Iraqis didn't do this to you, didn't send you there, didn't kill your friends or mess you up. Your government took advantage of your willingness to fight for your country and decided you were expendable. Just remember that.

Antiwar.com Original Articles : Israel's Provocation at al-Aqsa

Like epppie, I was shocked by this article. Israel is the land of tragic, bewildering irony. It will happily destroy an ancient Islamic holy site to rebuild a temple demolished by Romans - who the Muslims then conquered, paving the way for Jews to return to the holy land. It will ethnically cleanse an indigenous population in memory of the Holocaust. It will build a "museum of tolerance" on top of a Muslim cemetery. And then its citizens will picnic atop a fully exposed hill on Israel's border, cheering as the IDF shoots fish in a tiny, overstocked barrel.

Your comment is loaded with inaccuracies, but I will say this: If a country has the right to defend itself by preemptively "incapacitating" a hostile power which has repeatedly threatened to attack, does this give Iran the right to attack the United States for threatening to "obliterate" and "bomb bomb bomb" Iran?

Antiwar.com Blog : Dogs, Donkeys and Women, Oh My!

I'm not thrilled with the religious nature of the Capitol Hill event. I think it's going to backfire and give bigots like the SIOA ammunition for their propaganda, and I've said as much to a Muslim friend. However, I'm willing to bet that at least half of the attendees will be young women, as Muslim congregations usually are, so I have no idea where the heck they got the notion that a female presence is a "disruption". I've visited a few Middle Eastern countries (Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt) and from what I've seen there is no religious enforcement there, at least not by the government. Just like the US and pretty much every country in the world, in every one the capitols and major cities were generally secular (Amman, Beirut, Cairo) - Alexandria's beaches had as many bikini-clad women as the California coast line. But when you go deeper into any country and hit the small towns and villages you'll find the Muslim Bible Belt. To my knowledge, the vast majority of the middle east - with a few obvious exceptions - resembles these countries. So if most Arab and Muslim countries haven't been "Islamized" nor implemented Sharia law, how are the US and Europe in danger? Does Islamization mean the mere presence of Muslims? Am I missing something?

Antiwar.com Original Articles : Evil Speaks – Are We Listening?

Until I see a convincing video of a living, breathing, moving Osama, I'll stick with the conclusion that he's been dead for a while. At the very least he's still on the CIA payroll, because for the life of me I can't understand how men living in caves in a 3rd world country occupied by the US for 8 years can slip through our fingers while traveling by donkey, and manage to produce videos and issue statements while they're at it. His recordings always surface at the most advantageous time for the White House, and usually ring of truth. This could serve two purposes: 1) It might still appeal to any Muslims who are either pissed off or stupid enough to look to him as a leader, and 2) Osama's message echos and applauds the antiwar and 9/11 truth movements, thereby making it uncomfortable enough for Americans to not want to be associated with something OBL endorses. You don't really want to agree with Osama bin Laden on anything, do you? I didn't think so.
