But if we take into consideration the necessary technology involved, primarily hybrid and AWD tech, I think we're more likely to end up with a slightly Japanese, slightly more fuel efficient Audi R8. Were Honda extending the same line of development that Toyota pursued with the GT86 but at a higher price point, then I might have hope for something more like the athletically independent NSX of old, but every indication thus far points, in my mind, to an R8-me-too. This will satisfy many, and be a welcome reinvigorating force for the company as a whole, but it wouldn't be enough for me to walk past a 911 and buy one. A young friend of mine has a Cayman S (the bugger), and it is an impressive machine, but it’s nowhere near as visceral as a 964 RS. That’s still quite a bit of money to spend on any car for a youngster, seeing as how we haven’t had the years to accumulate much wealth, so I think that a 964 Carrera 4 is a more realistic target.
