This reminds me of the famous Ferry Porsche quotes: "It is better to enter a turn slow and come out fast," he said, "than to enter a turn fast and come out brown."

Hooniverse : Hooniverse Asks- What Drives You Nuts About Your Daily Driver?

Haha ya, those problems also suck. My mind somehow manages to forget about those problems until I'm in the driver's seat, and it's been a little while, what with the surprisingly relentless stream of press vehicles I've somehow managed to acquire. First world problems, I know.

Hooniverse : VIDEO: History of the NSX and a look into the future

So you're saying that Honda needs to make a $100k Ferrari, in essence. I'm in no way disagreeing with how amazing that would be, perhaps with the Platonicity of the 458, but not that benchmark in parallel, as you so eloquently put it. But if we take into consideration the necessary technology involved, primarily hybrid and AWD tech, I think we're more likely to end up with a slightly Japanese, slightly more fuel efficient Audi R8. Were Honda extending the same line of development that Toyota pursued with the GT86 but at a higher price point, then I might have hope for something more like the athletically independent NSX of old, but every indication thus far points, in my mind, to an R8-me-too. This will satisfy many, and be a welcome reinvigorating force for the company as a whole, but it wouldn't be enough for me to walk past a 911 and buy one.

My 2002 Protege5 persists for the same reason, because it's paid off. It is truly awful on the highway, the gearing being too short for such duty, and the front suspension is clearly in disrepair, but too expensive to replace. Other than that, it starts up every time and has never left me stranded.

The V8 I drove a few years back was equally impressive, until its transmission decided that it couldn't be bothered to work anymore. A bit beneath it, you see. Go figure, a people's car with a superiority complex.

CarEnvy.ca : Point, Counterpoint: Porsche Panamera S Hybrid

You're right. China is a market that can no longer be overlooked. And I think that hybrid assistance will soon be commonplace on all vehicles in North America as costs come down and fuel economy regs tighten up, but for the time being it's a marketing exercise that I don't feel comfortable recommending to anyone.

John Glynn's blog: 911 Porsche tales and other stories : Porsche Cayman R versus 964 RS

As a young man of 24, I’d consider myself a “youngster”, and I would take the 964 RS in a heartbeat over the Cayman R. A young friend of mine has a Cayman S (the bugger), and it is an impressive machine, but it’s nowhere near as visceral as a 964 RS. That’s still quite a bit of money to spend on any car for a youngster, seeing as how we haven’t had the years to accumulate much wealth, so I think that a 964 Carrera 4 is a more realistic target. For me, at least.
