I sincerely doubt that police will be going around asking people to see their papers. What will more likely happen is,- when someone is stopped for breaking a traffic law, or has been caught doing something else that they shouldn't be doing, then they will be asked for proof of residency (which I do not think was legal before this law was enacted). For as long as I can remember, there have been check points along different highways in California that are a fair distance from the Mexican border, and no one complains about them, I don't see why everyone is getting so worked up over the AZ law.
