Oh come on. What's with the "OMG, how catty!" remarks? I always thought one of Breitbart's strategies was to use the left's tactics against them. We need all sorts of articles at this site. Some of them may seem tabloid, but so what. Taking the higher ground has gotten conservatives in the mess they're in today. We can't be polite. We need to point out celebrity vapidity where we see it. And it's not like it's one of the other Big sites, sheesh. It's Big Hollywood.

Great post Rob. This needs to be shouted from the rooftops. So many people still believe it's "the gaaaayyyys." I watched a documentary called Deliver Us From Evil about notorious pedophile priest Oliver O'Grady who abused both girls and boys. In it, one of his female victims recounted a conversation she had with someone in authority who told her that her case wasn't reported because it wasn't "strange" for O'Grady to be attracted to girls (or something to that effect). I wonder how many girls were dismissed in this way. I'm sure there are plenty of female victims of pedophile priests. I used to think people who think rape and abuse are about only about sex just had a simplistic view of sex. But I agree with you that the people you mention are belittling the plight of all victims of child molestation by trying to turn this into a gay issue to suit their political and theological agendas.

Exactly. When I read this, I thought she was skipping a generation. Every 20-something generation wishes those before them would just move over, and then they realize they aren't the only ones on the planet. Otherwise, I greatly appreciate what she and James have done for conservatism.

Good for her. I completely disagree with her stance on gay marriage, but she was treated horribly for simply answering a question and stating her beliefs politely. If she truly was fired for not towing the politically correct line, then she deserves compensation from the Miss California officials for discrimination.

My parents had jobs, so they couldn't make it to this oh so historic event. Not like they would have been let in. Dad was a Vietnam vet who didn't hate his country. In my 20s, I kind of wished they were cooler, but I've grown up. I really need to tell my parents more often how much I appreciate they weren't (and aren't) hippies. Interesting parallel you point out between the starry-eyed portrayal of Woodstock and the messianic Obamanut fascination.

You dealt with this subject well and without vitriol or as you say too much stereotyping. I came across a lot of people like that in my 20s while I was "journeying." Their not evil but gullible, as gullible as any extreme no matter what spiritual or religious affiliation. Luckily I came to the same realization that you did of how identity is devalued in groups like that and how dangerous it is to the individual. Hopefully, this woman will eventually be okay with living in her own skin. Excellent piece.
