Agreed: never skimp on lessons or gear. It's also simply not for everyone - if after some formal training and more experience you still don't feel 100% sure of yourself, walk away healthy and without any regrets.

I once started building a model of the first Moskva Class helicopter carrier on which the Yak-38 was supposed to be stationed. However, like the Russian military in the late '80s and early '90s I went through some turmoil and never finished the project.

My favourite has always been the Martin B-26 Marauder. I don't know if it's the tough lines or the Flying Prostitute moniker (no visible means of support, referencing the tiny wings) or the bank of .50cals under the fuselage, I've just always thought it was the coolest. <img src="http://www.warbirdsresourcegroup.org/URG/images/b26-001.jpg" />

I've always wondered why there's no private aviation industry that builds aircraft for the ultra-rich that are just cool (like Pagani or Morgan.) First off the line would be a replica of this; second would be a Gloster Meteor lookalike.
