This brings up a point to make about the difference in the mentality of the Japanese military. In the period between the dropping of Little Boy and Fat Man, there was also an attempted coup in Japan - the civilian government wanted to surrender and the military did NOT, just the opposite of the German mentality. Which indicates there would have been very many Japanese military members fighting to the death if we hadn't used The Bombs. Fortunately, the generals lost out on this one.
