So let me get this straight. You applaud this as the most accurate depiction of Hoover because it heavily suggests he was homosexual, instead of outright showing him engaging in homosexual activity with other men. This, despite the fact there is zero evidence he was homosexual, the claim he was a cross dresser comes from a convicted perjurer with an ax to grind, and the disclosure by a defecting Soviet that the homosexual rumors were part of a disinformation campaign against Hoover. And then you applaud the casting of an attractive man as Hoover's "lover" rather than how that individual looked in real life, so that audiences will believe Hoover couldn't help being attracted to this man.

Do you understand what the word "accurate" actually means?

The commentary track is a pretty impressive achievement itself. It's one of the best commentaries I've ever heard.

I agree with Christian's take on that line. You don't find it a little tongue in cheek for HI to blame the President of the United States as he prepares to rob a convenience store?

Gordon was always a democrat. And Surnow didn't leave the show until the middle of the 7th season.

Exactly. And Vasili Mitrokhin, a KGB major who defected to Britain, stated that the rumors of Hoover being homosexual were actually part of the Soviet's disinformation campaign meant to discredit him in the public's eyes. It's really bothersome that it's become accepted as "fact" by a large segment of the population. That Dustin Lance Black wrote the screenplay does not give me hope that this will treat the subject matter correctly.

I'm very glad "Lost" is included on your list, John. I'd place it at number one on my own list.

I think the entire point of the series was summed up by Mr. Eko before he died, when he said "I did not ask for the life that I was given but it was given none the less, and with it I did my best." All of the characters, like everyone in life, are faced with circumstances in their lives beyond their control, but it is the choices they make in dealing with those circumstances that are important. I was really surprised when we found out that Jacob was not some god-like character, but was actually a somewhat naive guy who had this huge responsibility thrust upon him. He doesn't know all the answers, but must deal with his circumstances the best that he can. Ultimately, the show is framed by Jack's acceptance of his place in life.

I loved that the series was filled with such well-drawn characters and examined the themes of "Faith vs. Science", "Sin and Redemption", "Life and Death" and "Free Will vs. Fate". And it did so without ever treating the themes cynically. It's pretty amazing that a show would take such a respectful stance on religion and never once sucker-punch the audience on it.

I thought Drive Angry was pretty entertaining, too!

I love the show also. Since I've been conditioned to expect a sucker punch, I had a little bit of a hard time enjoying that episode until it was over!

I'm hoping that with Tim Minear as an executive producer, we won't have to worry too much about sucker punches. He's apparently a center-right guy and even a reader of the Corner at National Review.

Number 6 was True Grit, and number 3 was Inception.

I just watched "The Cardinal" from Otto Preminger. I was impressed that it was able to tackle serious issues and remain respectful of faith and religion.
