Life in Low Sec : One Good Turn Deserves Another

With satellite internet, lag is very bad. This has the effect of causing gate jump sessions to frequently require 45-60 seconds to load. Or of causing modules to not respond to a click for 3-6 seconds sometimes. It's not possible, in other words, to play in "real time"...you're always a few seconds behind reality. In PvP, especially small ship PvP, it creates a terrible handicap. Besides that, my ISP blocks access to ventrilo servers so voice comms is out. Kinda hard to PvP in a fleet without that.

Life in Low Sec : Still Unplugged, But...

I guess the idea came from the desire to collaborate without ruffling CCP's feathers and secondarily, to ensure no NDA infractions. CSM5 asked CCP frequently to review stuff before publication to ensure no NDA stuff was inadvertently included...and I must say that CCP Xhagen was absolutely fair in his assessments of such things no matter how uncomfortable they made him as a CCP employee. Except for the NDA'ing of the Incarna stuff in the October 2010 minutes, but that was not his decision. However, I think it is an impossible charter for the CSM to operate effectively and not expect to ruffle CCP feathers from time to time, considering where they sit in the equation between players and CCP. While I don't think feather-ruffling is something they should aim to do, it should also never be something that prevents them from doing the right thing and fighting the good fight in their elected role.

Rifter Drifter : New Teeth, New Flat, New Life

Gratz on the new job/flat. I'm lurking a little bit around the edges of EVE still, checking in on a few blogs once in awhile and FHC. But less and less as time goes on. The longer I'm away, the less interesting any of it is. But there are a few people I have a soft spot for in my heart, and you're one of them. Hope RL continues to treat you well :)

Sadly, no, it would have to be TS3. It seems my ISP--which has always stated that it does not support VOIP even tho Vent worked okay if laggy forever--finally did "something" (probably packet repriortisation of some kind) that now makes it impossible to log in to any vent server. Either they can't do the same thing for TS or they don't have a reason to--yet. Anyway...I'm taking a long break. Might or might not be back. Don't really know at this point. <3

Diary of a Pod Pilot : CSM 6: my votes and motivations

Hey thanks for the kind words :) I am glad you feel your vote for me was well invested. Got a giggle out of your "mother figure" analogy. 'Tis somewhat true but don't forget to paint that image with a foul mouth, a bit of impetuous temper, and an eyebrow raised skeptically when listening. *grin* I admire the way you carefully think about the candidates and make choices based on complex criteria. I am very interested to see how CSM6 shakes out roster-wise and over the course of their term year. Although I won't be playing EVE much if at all (still connection issues + real life adventures looming), I will be hovering on the fringers with finger on pulse.

Life in Low Sec : A Call to Arms

1. Call me a failed delegate all you like, but inferring that CSM5 a failed term is bullshit. As a direct result of the events following the June Summit plus compelling arguments in support of a number of proposals, more items from the CSM backlog were implemented during CSM5's term that the combined total implemented during all other terms. But maybe we have different definitions of success. What is yours? 2. It is not the CSM's lack of prospects to effect change to EVE that has burned me out or made me cynical. It is, rather, having to deal with constant obstacles imposed by communications bottlenecks and rampant dysfunction on many levels and from many angles within CCP. If you haven't picked up on that little problem by now, it's gonna be hella fun watching certain members of CSM6 come to the realization and start having their own succession of "WTF" moments. Brilliant social engineering by "devious manipulating bastards" won't be able to overcome that (it'll just make it worse), but professionalism and hard work might -- just might -- have an effect. At the very least, it'll set a good example. 3. Assertions in comments here and elsewhere that CSM5 doesn't have a clue about null sec are patently false if you consider the facts. Nine of the remaining twelve CSM5 members (Vuk, Korvin, Mazz, Sokratesz, Teadaze, Trebor, Helen Highwater, Alpha12125, and ElvenLord) are null sec players, most if not all in sov-holding alliances. Seven of those people--including Helen Highwater--attended the December Summit where the fabled "destroy null sec" discussion occurred. Even discounting the "dangerous idiot" (as Helen has so charmingly described Trebor), null sec had more than sufficient informed representation in the December meetings. Did all those people--including your own representative--REALLY fail to speak out against these bad ideas that you're so worried about? Or is all that stuff being spun out of context? I think it's time for another review of the recordings I have from those sessions...

Life in Low Sec : A Call to Arms

Ah but see, I didn't proclaim to want to take over CSM like certain null sec candidates have stated is their mission. I believe that the CSM should be diverse--and not devoted to a single agenda. CSM should have informed null sec perspective as well as other perspectives. That is what this blog post is all about. And you'll note that all three candidates whom I endorse can be considered null sec players. The difference as I see it is their perspective and their balanced agendas compared to certain null sec candidates with great big power blocs behind them.

I declined my free trip to FF so I won't be there this year. No real interest + to go would have meant losing a week's pay one month before I get laid off and begin self employment with unpredictable income. You and Mrs. Manasi should just come out to the farm for a visit a little further into nice weather months. :) It's only a couple hours drive.

Maybe conversations with CCP did, that we aren't privvy to. Or other factors are at play that we don't know about which for whatever reason Roc and Sam choose to keep private. It's not your place to be judge, jury, and executioner just because you happen to disagree. End of the day, it's their toy and they can throw it out of the pram if they wish.

u mad, bro? It seems a little out of line to be angry at someone for making an informed choice about what to do with a product they funded and spent a retarded amount of uncompensated time to develop, promote, and support. No matter how popular such a product is with who use it for free, I can fully understand and support Roc and Sam's decision to make the choices they did related to Capsuleer--especially after CCP strung them along for nearly a year with no clear answer and often a complete lack of response. Do you see a pattern here?
