BeijingiPhoneRepair.com : hamzah_akram Released His Free iPhone 4 Baseband 4.11.08 Unlock Tutorial

This is just a regurgitation of the fake "unlock" people were pushing a few months ago. At the very *best* you'll get 5-10 seconds of what looks like a carrier signal. But you won't be able to make calls, and the signal will disappear after 10 seconds max. It's a normal side-effect of OTA activation. It doesn't last more than mere seconds. I tried posting this on the faker's blog, but he's filtering the comments (for obvious reasons).

I think in this specific @pod2g example, he was legitimately excited by seeing something he thought would immediately extend his method to the A5. It's easy to get caught up in the excitement of that! I think in these cases it's best to go by past history. It's probably the only way to distinguish between honest misjudgments, and intentional misleading.

Hah thanks, as with most things in life, it's a continuous feedback loop :) Think stuff, say stuff, hear stuff, incorporate, rinse and repeat :) (But it's always important to let the stuff be said, because the existing stuff may not actually be right :) )

Yep, all three iPad2 models. (It seemed too confusing to specifically say: iPad2,1, iPad2,2, iPad2,3)

iPhone Dev Team is not against sim unlocks :) But for instance @pod2g lives in France, where software-based sim unlock hacks are illegal, so he cannot support them. Different countries can have drastically different laws.

It's actually much more rewarding to know that you're using the jailbreak for good purposes, not bad (piracy) :) Principle matters more than $$ reward!

Can you guys try out the new 0.9.9b9d mentioned at the bottom of the main post? You just need to do one Jailbreak pass over your existing setup for you to get the fixes. Because redsn0w can't currently identify the build of an old-bootrom 3GS that's already jailbroken, you need to tell it explicitly that it's 5.0.1 by using the "IPSW" button. When you get to the jailbreak options screen, deselect Cydia since you don't want to install it again. Thanks!

I can reproduce both (they are linked to same root cause). Thanks again for all the details you and everyone else have been providing!

Hi...thanks for providing all those details. I am able to reproduce the problem and will try to push out a fix this afternoon. In the meantime, a temporary workaround is to treat the 3GS as though it's tethered by selecting the 5.0.1 IPSW manually then doing "Just boot" Sorry for the hassle!

Hmm ok, I was only using Maps as a test app. I guess that wasn't enough! I'll try it with Twitter location enabled.

No it doesn't...we'll push a compatibility update for ultrasn0w by the time the GM is public.

Yes, but only by pointing it at the beta7 IPSW (and it's still tethered). We'll update it to directly recognize the GM soon.

Today's 0.9.8b7b update should fix that. You don't need to restore or anything..just boot tethered with this new version (please reply back if you try it).

I've not heard of that specific issue....you're saying that push notifications are working fine up until you turn on location services, at which point they just stop coming? (By the way, are you using hacktivation or are you using SAM? And what firmware version are you at?)

It's not impossible (if you're already jailbroken)...but on the other hand the easier you make it to update, the more people naturally start to think updating is normal and good to do. It's a fine line!
