As the Supreme Court has determined, being on a waiting list is not health care. Finding the cure to diseases is not the only part of health care services. Patients in Canada ARE being denied health care services - sometimes blatantly by the bizarre personal biases of physicians.

To make the point, the Mental Health Commission of Canada has recognized that health care professionals discriminate against the mentally ill - in direct contravention of s. 15 of the Charter of Rights (our Constitution). That means individuals who have been diagnosed with a mental illness are not getting proper health care and in many cases are being denied care altogether. Here is a partial statement from the MHCC's 'Anti-Stigma Initiative':

"Health care professionals - the medical front lines eg, doctors, nurses and Emergency Room receptions, are where people seeking help say they experience some of the most deeply felt stigma and discrimination."

Barbara Hall, the Ontario Human Rights Commissioner made this statement on the OHRC website: "In some situations, like a medical clinic, it might be appropriate to refer a patient on to another professional who will help them. But patients should not have to shop around for medical treatment they were denied for non-clinical discriminatory reasons."

I was refused referral to a specialist for a formal fybromyalgia diagnosis by two physicians at the Mountain Medical Clinic in Hamilton despite former medical records indicating it should be investigated. When contacting the CPSO regarding the first refusal, I was told they could do whatever they wanted, despite Ms. Hall's statement that also pronounced that the CPSO had developed an anti-discrimination policy for it's members. When asking a CPSO investigator about the policy, she said they "had no proof", contradicting case law.

Ms. Hall appears to have abdicated the responsibility of the Ontario Human Rights Commission to an agency that is notorious for withholding evidence from their complaints committee or not complying with the rules of civil procedure.

I'd rather bring this corruption into the light of millions of Americans where the Ontario government is more likely to respond than have the two or three people that will read this but never have the denials of medical service ever see the media spot light in Canada

If Canadian politicians listened better and were pro-active in fixing the problems here, then individuals like Ms. Holmes would not have to go to the U.S. to make her concerns about her treatment here known. I'm itching to find a news organ in the U.S. who is willing to hear my story since our media doesn't want to publicize the problems many patients are having with doctors, the Colleges that monitor them, government officials and lawyers who aren't willing to sue for medical malpractice because our own governments pay the medical malpractice fees for physicians who hire law firms that try to turn gold from a sows ear. I'd love for the people in the United States to hear what I've been through with my health care experiences - especially if it means our health care providers, lawyers and politicians are called out for their incompetences.

And since when don't Canadians, Canadian politicians and Canadian media not debate everything America does every chance they get? Canadians have been conditioned to salivate at the mere mention of 'America' which elicits contemptuous responses. I find Rae's commentary laughably hypocritical, even bizarre when we Canadians criticize everything America does.

I never properly endorsed Chuck Strahl for his work to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act so our First Nations communities have equal protection under it. According to me, this was the single most historically important act the Conservative government made to date. I found it under reported, including on my own blog.

It's wishful thinking. How credible is your veteran Liberal? Dion will get turfed after they loose the election and Ignatieff will take his place.
