One Bronco Nation Under God (OBNUG) : Great Expectations: Why 2008's close call still lingers

Boise State football has come along way if we(myself included) as fans are unhappy with a 12-1 season. This was a great one simply because it showed us all where the program is headed. Great programs don't have those "off" years. They have new recruits that fill in the old shoes and keep the team moving. Boise State experienced that this year for maybe the first time ever. If next year they're undefeated again you can bet we'll all be watching them in the BCS. I for one plan on being in Toledo for the away game. Did you ever hear of the battle of Toledo between Michigan and Ohio? Ohio lost.

One Bronco Nation Under God (OBNUG) : Next generation of Broncos marks next step to BCS

I guess maybe I watched a different game than most. I DVR'd it so I'll watch it again just to make sure, but I didn't see an overly dominant TCU until the 10 minute mark in the 4th, when the Broncos seemingly forgot what an open field tackle was. I thought it was so evenly matched it couldn't have played out any different. The advantage was obviously what everyone said it was, TCU's Defense. The stopped everything in the 2nd half. But othe than that I really don't think Boise State's football program is all too far off from regularly handling these BCS 'power' teams. Until next year.... Hopefully the Basketball can get another title and some other conference decides to invite them...

One Bronco Nation Under God (OBNUG) : Oh no. He didn't. Chris O'Neill guilty of word vomit

I completely agree with Chris O'neill. BSU absolutely 'should' have won that game. They were dominate for most of the game and were displaying a better until the 9 minute mark of the 4th quarter. The problrm becomes that better teams FINISH. TCU finished the game Boise State did not Boise State SHOULD have won that game. Congrats to TCU on the hard fought win.

One Bronco Nation Under God (OBNUG) : This date in history: only the worst bowl game ever

what always impressed about last years bowl was how the Broncos came out in the 2nd half. you know Coach Pete tore into them. And they put down some offense, the likes of which is rarely seen, only to lose on a field goal. Heartbreaker for sure, worst bowl game ever....2005.

I was at the 2005 H-Bowl. Does anyone else remember the FREEZING rain that came through..? AAgh! It was horrible. And to add to it, Zabransky sends a satellite into orbit that could only be caught by a BC Eagle. I was at a complete loss at the end of that one. We all had big plans of going down to the Bar-De-Nay in the Basque Village and moving on from there. Jared Zabranksy ruined a night of debauchery for me, everyone went home. Considering the pattern of these past few years, we should be in for a treat this evening. GO BRONCOS!!!

I think that last Bowl loss in Hawaii really woke up the young guys in this years defense. They had no intention of repeating that type of performance in 2008. And so far so good...(knock on wood). Boise State is doing exactly what needs to be done to establish themselves as an elite college football team. Just keep winning. Coach Pete has once again shown his ability to get these guys ready for every game. The other sports may be lacking at this point, but if this trend continues they won't be far behind... GO BRONCOS!!

For a little fun this evening I have invited some friends overfor the game. Being in Kentucky means only my wife and I are Bronco fans. The plan is that everytime the Broncos score we do a shot. Of course I'm excpecting a low score but hey, if they put up 60...bring it on!! Until then...Obnuggers... GO ORANGE! GO BIG BLUE! FIGHT! FIGHT! BSU!!!

Here's is the official Mikrino Pregame Analysis; Boise State's defense has been ignored since the bowl announcement came out and I believe it will serve as bulletin board material for the underrated unit. Not to mentioned last year's offensive beat down they took at the hands of ECU and future Pro Bowler, Chris Johnson. These guys are quite simply pissed. I see them coming out and shutting Dandy Talon and the Frogs down. I don't know how exactly the offense will fair against TCU's Defense but you can bet that Coach Pete has hopes of jumping out early and often. Boise State scores at least twice (with hopes that IJ is in on one). Brotzman sheds his lackluster couple of weeks to put up at least one FG and his punting will give T.J Conley fits of envy. Kyle Wilson may get in on the action with a return TD But the headline will be BSU's defensive dominance, mark my words, Broncos 21-3.

I don't know if anyone else saw it, but last night at halftime between So. Miss. and Troy, Herbstreit became the first person to say "on air" that everyone is forgetting about the Boise State Defense. He reminded little Doug Flutie that while TCU's D is formidable the Broncos are the #1 defense in the country in goal-to-go situations, allowing scores only 40% of the time. Flutie was either speechless or had a mouthful of Flutie Flakes (I couldn't tell which). He did manage to pick TCU anyway. Herbie picked the Broncos.

One Bronco Nation Under God (OBNUG) : BSU defense vs. TCU offense: Let's do this thing!

I seriously believe a shutout by the Bronco Defense is an absolute possibility. As Kevan said, no one is talking about them at all on ESPN or anywhere really but here. Statistically, TCU is only marginally better, and in some categories(Pass Efficiency Defense) Boise State is the better squad. I fully expect the Broncos to keep TCU under 10 points. Maybe none at all. My Prediction: 17-3 Broncos

No, that is actually my fantasy football team's name. I don't why I came up with that but I've used it for about 5 years now, actually came up with it when I lived in Twin Falls. So nothing southern about it.
2. Boise State's defense is not even being mentioned in the same sentence with TCU's and it should be and here's why; Scoring D- TCU: 2nd-10.9ppg ** BSU: 3rd-12.3ppg-a difference of 1.4 points Total D- TCU: 2nd-215.1 ypg ** BSU: 15th-294.5- a difference of 79.4 yards Pass efficiency D- TCU is 4th ** BSU is 3rd Red Zone Conversions- TCU is 3rd at 66.67% ** BSU is 5th at 70% a difference of 3.33% Third Down Conv.- TCI is 5th at 28.83% ** BSU is 12th at 30.89% a difference of 2.06% I could continue in almost every category but you get the idea. The point is this; SURE Boise hasn't faced a D like TCU's. But TCU hasn't faced a D like BOISE's either. In that case, which offense would you want to roll with?

1. Boise State's offense is much more comprehensive than most people know. They may not have the strength, speed and skill as did Oklahoma's squad but they compensate for that with misdirection, awkward alignments, multiple motions, and a hurry up offense rarely used at the college level. The whole idea is to confuse and intimidate the defense in an attempt to gain the advantage. Get players out of position and attack that spot on the field. TCU hasn't dealt with that yet.

I can't wait for next Tuesday to get here already. I think TCU does very well on defense. I also think Boise State has a very extensive offensive scheme that gives opposing defenses fits trying to match up. I believe two areas here are being severely underrated, by both, the analysts, and TCU fans.
