Your assumption is very compelling based on the physical evidence provided by the looks of this "Proto-Adam" and the uncanny linguistic correlation between Genesis 2: 8, which says that the Garden of Eden was "East" and Easter Island, which begins with "East". However, this theory fails to consider that this happened before the days of Peleg, when the lands were gathered together in one large mass, so we may not have had "islands" per se.

I'll have to suggest that aditional research of the subject may be needed before an adequate conclusion can be reached.

I've been hunting for a piece of chocolate large enough to use as a model for this comic. :P

My third reaction was to go on a long-winded explanation of why the only hard part of this comic was drawing a recognizable statue, but my fourth reaction was to delete it, so my second reaction stands.

About the maple leaf, after careful analysis, my board of directors decided that censoring this comic would be necesary to maintain the age-rating. And no, Michaelangelo did not censor his version, but he was just trying to outdo the original this angel made, of course.
