Things like this happen in Boulder, with increasing frequency.

See for yourself (note the address of 4869 N. Broadway) -- http://www.bouldercolorado.gov/files/Police/sexof...

Including those listed as simply "homeless" I count 13 who are pictured, mostly child molesters, and there can be little doubt that some not shown online because of lesser offenses are also at BSH or on the streets.

It's simply not true that these guys are sent away for life.

Matt isn't a leader, or he would have stood up on his own like Longmont Mayor Coombs and expressed his personal opinion fearlessly.

To say that this is an official position by the City of Boulder is disingenuous -- it's NOT within their purview. It's no more than cynical preaching to the choir.

Based on what is really going on at Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, where a dozen or so registered sex offenders are residing because of state budget cuts for prison space and DOC-operated halfway houses, I expect that both Rogers and Masse will be released at the earliest possible moment -- whether it's 15 years or 10 years.

All they have to do is play the game of going to their "treatment" when there's a slot available for them; let's not forget that sex offenders are Master Manipulators. The only way they'll remain in the joint for life is if they're totally arrogant screwups, and I concede that in Masse's case this is quite possible.

Almost as upscale in appearance as Boulder Shelter for the Homeless.

Isn't Judge Ensor the one who sentenced Travis Masse? If you can find some logical consistency between the two cases, I'd love to know what it is.

Would you care to document your claim?

Granted, my experience is limited to the Missouri DOC industry. When they reach a certain age, even murderers serving life without parole wind up in minimum security facilities -- I tutored a couple of 'em. One was a 1960s Gangster Disciple and the other was one of the Aryan Brotherhood from about the same era; they were in the same GED class, but not at the same table.

Also, in MO anyway, a lot of mental health counselors work in the prisons. Ditto for substance abuse counselors. Their clients are part of the general population. And in any diagnostic facility, where new inmates are evaluated before being assigned to a permanent camp, you'll find killers together with deadbeat dads and other non-violent offenders.

No, I've never watched any TV program about prison life.

Who wants to be in a yoga class with a bunch of people who have pigged out on burritos?

There's something to be said in favor of Wild West justice.

On the other hand, the prison industry across America employs a lot of people and brings a lot of money to economically depressed rural areas. That's why so many non-violent offenders are incarcerated along with killers, armed robbers, and child molesters like Rogers.
