But on this issue, one doesn't have to think too hard about it to see this has conservative values. First, the government has no business regulating who you can and cannot marry. But more apt, being the party of Lincoln, the conservative party must understand that what is done here is done because civil rights -- and any time the government recognizes and provides benefit for something, it is a civil right -- are not dependent upon agreement by the majority.
