It doesn't get more romantic than a Soldier in full dress uniform walking his bride down the aisle under an arch of ceremonial sabres. It's the closest thing you can get to a royal wedding for normal people. And what girl doesn't want that?

My father also has a plaque with a piece of the Berlin Wall on it in his office - which every time I see it reminds me of the role he and other American veterans played in defeating tyranical left-wing socialism during the Cold War. I guess it must really pain these commi-sympathizers in Hollywood that their side lost because veterans like my father wouldn't let them expand the Marxist empire to the West...

And even the "grunts" actually make quite decent coin (if you stay in). 50k~ a year is nothing to sneeze at. If your wife also works, it's a very decent combined family income. It's certainly enough to afford a nice home, 2 cars, pay the bills and live a normal middle class life.I grew up with several kids who had this sort of family arrangement and they seemed perfectly well off to me... *shrug*

I know it's become fashionable to protray all military families as constantly struggling in order to try and amplify their sacrifice (or if you're a leftist, to protray our soldiers as losers...), but truth be told, I never saw any of that (not to say young soldiers or military families with stay-at-home moms don't struggle with money). But honestly, all of the military families that I PERSONALLY knew ALL had quite a pleasent and I'd even say a CUSHY lifestyle.

And you can't put a price tag on how PROUD I was when my father would come home from work at the Pentagon in his uniform when I was kid. I can't even begin to describe how much pride I felt for my father due to his military career. That's something these idiots will NEVER understand - and I honestly pity them for it.

God forbid these subversive leftist a-holes ever protray a REAL military family - like mine.

My father didn't serve in the U.S. Army for 25 years because he couldn't find a "real job"; he joined for the same reason I wanted to join - it's an honor to serve and protect your nation (although I never did - much to my shame) and is very often a family tradition.

My father went to Yale where he met my beautiful mother, got an advanced degree, never did drugs, never had PTSD (despite seeing lots of combat in Vietnam), never hit my mother and he made a very respectable 100k~ a year income near the end of his military career.

The truth is, we had a great life.

Now I know that my father made more money because he was a Commissioned Officer, but so what? There's lots of Commissioned Officers in our military. Why shouldn't that be a career that we encourage in America?
