As for your comment: January 2008 was not a time of good economic growth. In fact, it was the first month that the current problems with the economy became evident (the stock market falling, for example). Granted, it wasn't as bad as it is at the moment, but it wasn't good.

And, like you said, Microsoft pulled out of that slump by cutting the price. Like I state in the article, the PS3 is not doomed to failure if Sony can cut the price or add value to the console (although most of the commenters don't seem to realize I'm not automatically dooming the console). However, like I pointed out, Sony isn't in a position to cut the price so adding features seems to be their only option.

And I don't quite understand why being the lowest priced console so soon in this generation means the Xbox is struggling. Sure you could point out that Microsoft had to cut the price to stimulate sales, but that also means that Microsoft is in the best position at the moment. After all, most console sales occur after it has been dropped below $200.
