I agree that the current manifestation of the republican party is the result of Reagan-era rhetoric. Reagan (or at least his advisers) knew it was all just rhetoric. He raised taxes during a recession to engage in Keynesian stimulus spending (e.g. The Highway Revenue Act of 1982 [P.L. 97-424]) all the while decrying such a move rather than just explaining the economics of it to the American people. Current republicans seem to ACTUALLY BELIEVE their own rhetoric. That's why you get someone like Cantor's press secretary who interrupts an interview to embarrass the party, demonstrate their typical historically-blind hero-worship, and say that Reagan never raised taxes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LJDs-nAXo4

"Now, I'm no theologian, but I'm fairly certain that neither Jesus nor his rabbinic forebears, when speaking of giving, meant some obligation to the state."

You're right, Chuck - you're no theologian.

"Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's"
-Jesus, as quoted in Matthew 22:21

"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves."
Paul the Apostle, as quoted in Romans 13

Your party is the one that wants to pretend the founders were biblical fundamentalists, and wants to use the bible to justify discrimination against gays. That ancient guide book that *actually* includes Mark's and Paul's passages but not the Sibelius passage you quoted. At least don't selectively ignore passages from your ridiculous ancient guidebook when making yet another of your ridiculous, ignorant arguments.

You making a claim with no citation is what science has devolved into

Do you know what the words "oil and coal industry" mean? Follow the money. The cap and trade industry is absolutely DWARFED by the energy sector. It's not even close.

That's awesome. Actually I am a research scientist. It's what I do for a living. Try again.

If you want to "follow the money" you'll follow it to the giant oil and coal corporations funding the "global warming is a hoax" propaganda. You won't follow it to the meager salaries of scientists nor to their grants. It's just absolutely ridiculous.

And by the way- be honest with yourself. Do you know what the word "mesosphere" means? Did you have to look it up on wikipedia? If you had to look it up then be honest with yourself - you don't know basic facts about climatology. You have not read a single peer-reviewed journal article on the topic, much less an entire literature that you've critically read and disagree with.

Here's some data that even non-experts such as the above posters can digest: http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/all.final...
