I don't even need to know the context of the argument to realize you've been trounced. Though I do.

Now perhaps we can return to judging men & women based on their achievements/accomplishments as individuals, rather than some collectivist notion that he is a good man by default b/c of his religiosity.

RP annoys Neocons b/c his positions take them out of their comfort zone, and require them to think. Most people dislike thinking, and respond with bullying & aggression. You can see this in the above comments.
Your point about not accomplishing anything is correct, I believe, in the traditional sense of viewing a congressman. I believe he might have been more effective if he had actively converted others to his way of thinking. He is constantly re-elected, howeve, meaning his constituents agree that his strategy best represents their interest.
However, I think he's always had the problem of not being particularly charismatic. On the other hand, he has not compromised his principles, which makes it easy for others to rally around him. I think RP would be nothing if it weren't for the level of enthusiasm his principled approach engenders. Congress encourages a pragmatic approach & thinking short term, as this increases congressmen's power.
Let me ask it in another way... if some man was part of the nazi party, and did everything he could to stop the final solution, but failed b/c he was only one voice, would you say he accomplished nothing?
I wonder if above scenario is more appropriate in assessing his career. We are nearing the end of the progressive era, after all, RP was a lone voice for many years. Also don't forget - we're talking about his policies right now. That is the primary reason he runs. Has he accomplished nothing as a congressman? Perhaps. Has he accomplished nothing as a politician and rallying point of a powerful political movement in America? You bet.
Anyway, I appreciate your rational criticism. Much better than we normally receive @ breitbart.
