Big Government : Obama's Rejection of the Keystone Pipeline: A Gift for Republicans in 2012

sajc05 said "Ha, I just love how right wingers adore and defend corporations and spit in the face of the middle class and poor." So please explain to me how $3.90 a gallon gas here in SanDiego is not spitting in the face of the middle class and poor? Are oil companies to blame for the lack of our own domestic resources to refine or is it Obama who takes every measure available to hamper production? Do you know what kind of cars the middle class and poor drive? Old inefficient gas guzzlers, thats what we drive. Not because we want to but because we can't afford the new hybrids and electrics. And all the while Obama wonders why we aren't spending more money to stimulate the economy. Since only Republicans are for Big Corporations and Rich people can you tell me why Obama offered a $6,000 rebate to people who bought electric cars last year? The Chevy Volt for example costs $42K new, do people who can afford a $40K car really need help on the price? And isn't the pride derived from knowing you're helping the planet reward and incentive enough? Why should people who can't afford to buy the Volt, subsidize those who can afford it? Oh, and FYI, Obama's new budget wants to raise that to a $10K subsidy, just so you know. And since I brought up Obama's budget and how he wants a $10K subsidy to buy electric cars, he also wants to cancel Boehners $8K subsidy for Wash. DC school vouchers. So rich people should get a break on their environmentally safe cars but the poor and middle class should accept a second rate education for their children. No, that's not spitting in anyone's face!

sajc05 you need to stop living in the past. Democrats are every bit as guilty of the same things you blame Republicans of. What's the difference between Republicans fighting for Wall St., Corporations, and Free-Market Capitalism, and Democrats fighting for Unions, Big Government, and State sponsored Socialism? And please offer me something more concrete than your personal biased opinion here!

sajc05 said "The government has made promises about pipelines before". Are you really that naive to believe that anything can be made to be 100% fail safe? Could the builders of the World Trade Centers possibly conceive of a fire starting that would burn as hot as thousands of gallons of aviation fuel burns. NO they couldn't. Should we stop building skyscrapers cause a fire might topple them, No we shouldn't. They could only foresee, and therefore prepare, for a fire from electrical, paper, and wood products so the fire retardant used was made to meet those possibilities. I know my use of an example here probably confuses you, so my point is that there are no promises of absolute certainty in this world. When accidents from unforeseen circumstances occur you remedy them and learn from them to prevent it from happening again. That is all we can ask for and do as human beings. Oil occasionally spilling from pipelines is no more preventable than birds flying into wind turbines. They are both unfortunate ecological events that pale in comparison to the benefits they provide.

If you consider the number of oil and gas pipelines that have existed in this country the last 100 years and compare that to the number of significant spills it is less than a 0.01% failure rate. In other words, it is statistically insignificant. I understand there have been some serious accidents, I personally worked 2 years on the Exxon Valdez spill where I piloted a Landing Craft bringing cleaning crews and their equipment to the beaches each day, so I know better than most people, what a spill really looks like. But to cite a few rare catastrophes, as a reason to stop the practice altogether without weighing those risks against the many benefits is a purely irrational, emotionally based response. How bout we learn from those spills to improve the process and make it safer the next time, like we do in every other aspect of our lives.

Big Hollywood : Big Movie Flashback: 'The Taking of Pelham One Two Three' (1974)

This is one of those movies my father made me sit down and watch with him as a teenager. Of course I went in thinking it would suck then quickly had to hide my immediate interest and adoration for it. Plus, I've come to learn you just can't go wrong with anything that has Walter Matthau in it. Some of the other movies he made me watch as a kid that I now love are, Big Wednesday, Gunga Din, and Sometimes a Great Notion. Thanks Dad!

So it isn't just that SNL can't make a funny skit about Obama, they can't do a funny political skit about anyone. I like how they tried to portray Mitt as being unable to read from a teleprompter. I guess they want to highlight by contrast the only thing Obama can do well. Just goes to prove there is nothing funny about incompetence.

Big Government : Standing Still on the XL Pipeline

Seeing how gas prices in California are already at $3.80 gallon and it's only February, Obama is going to have a tough time selling his energy policy to a nation that will be facing gas prices well above $4.00 gallon near election time.
Big Government : Gingrich Eschews Rhetoric for Substance in CPAC Address

This election is about more than just who holds the WH in 2013, this election is about exposing Liberal Progressives for what they really are, Socialists. There are exactly 2 ways of doing this: One is to have an articulate, genuinely intelligent, and knowledgeable history buff like Newt Gingrich debate Obama on national television. The other is to give Liberals everything they want which we all know will lead to a collapse of our system. Please see Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Russia, Cuba, East Germany and a host of others for examples. Now Mitt will do fine in a debate against Obama and I voted for the guy in the last primary cycle, but all we really get is the Conservative version of everything will be rainbows and lollipops. The same is true of Santorum. But Newt will absolutely decimate Obama in a debate setting. He's the only candidate that gives practical real world examples in his answers to most questions. This will help those Independents (who, let's face it, aren't quite sure what they stand for) make up their minds about what kind of America they want for the future. There's probably even a few Dems who would realize they've been lied to all these years and their way is a bad path to continue "down", and I mean that literally. We need a candidate who can bluntly articulate for the masses why Socialism is bad for us, why Iran has to be dealt with in stronger terms than "lets wait to see how this plays out", why we need a strong military, space program, judiciary, and economic policy. Newt will not only educate the President as well as most of us on these things, but he will do it in the most belittling and humiliating fashion imaginable. That is what we need right now to temporarily defeat this Liberal cancer. We will never be rid of Liberals but we can keep them at bay for the next 12 years or so. But with Mitt or Santorum we have this same fight again in 4 years. None of these guys are perfect and if we keep holding out for perfection we will be as disappointed in our candidate as the Dems are in Obama. Lets end this for a while and watch Newt rip the Left a new one every chance he gets.

I think I've kept my comments on the topic of Stewart and his show though, and I think I have presented more than enough evidence to prove my point or "my narrative" as you say. I think this is where we have to just agree to disagree. Thanks for keeping things civil and rational.
If you want to call Fox "a political arm of the Republican party" then you have to concede that the rest of the MSM is the "political arm of the Democrat party." I don't get why people can't see that what they are NOT being told is just as important as what they are being told, as far as the intent to manipulate goes by the messenger. Jon's activism stems from his NON-coverage of the Democrats, especially the President.

As for Jon ignoring Bachman's gaffes, I already stated that he can't do everything and lets be honest a couple of those are just mistakes because she is giving 4 speeches a day plus interviews so it is very easy to "say all the oil" instead of "part of the oil." And by bringing this up you don't even see that you are doing it again. You are holding a Republican to the highest degree of accuracy in every word that comes out of her mouth while excusing it from Democrats. Do you know why you keep doing this BigBart? It is from years of indoctrination from watching Stewart. This is the cornerstone of Jon's comedy and success as I've already pointed out to you. But how would you know what gaffes Dems make if Stewart and the rest of the MSM refuse to report them. You wouldn't and how could you.

So you don't think Cain was being facetious when he said Bills should be 3 pages? You don't see that his point was to mock the passage of a bill that was so large no one including it's writers could possibly read and comprehend all of it's intended and unintended consequences? This is where bias comes to play, you seem to believe that Republicans can actually be that naive that they think a bill could be written in 3 pages. And what if they simply broke the bill up into it's thousands of different parts and addressed each part individually in a 3 page law? I think that is totally do-able. I understand Jon goes for the easy joke and that he can't cover everything, but when a sitting President states that ATMs are responsible for our high unempoyment (which is quite possibly the most idiotic thing ever uttered by an educated person) I expect someone in the MSM to call him out on it, especially a satirest/comedian. Now you believe that Jon just didn't find that worthy of a joke but I think Jon doesn't want to embarrass his Leader, especially in front of the masses. And that is what makes Jon an activist in the minds of many on the Right.

Obviously it is hypocritical to mock the Republican man for not reading it and not the other man just because he is a Democrat. But I expect that from any partisan pundit these days, so no biggie there. But it’s the absolute pinnacle of hypocrisy to hold a man who is merely running for office to a higher standard than you hold those whose sole job is to write, read, understand, and vote on these bills. And Conyers was not the only Democrat to say this. Senator Dick Durbin confessed he didn’t read the whole bill. Nancy Pelosi said “...but we have to pass the bill in order to find out what is in it….” Which is an admission that she hadn’t read it herself nor did she understand it. Otherwise, she would have just explained it right then. That’s 3 of the most prominent Democrats in Congress, and none of them knew what they were voting for. Kinda makes Herman Cain look like he’s onto something with his 3 page bill idea in my book.
