Big Hollywood : Is 'The Walking Dead' Terminal? Yes. Because It's Stupid.

I've figured out a way to acknowledge the TSTL (too stupid to live) issues and still enjoy the show: When the Zombie Apocalypse began, the military, law enforcement, and all rational strong warrior types (Tea Party, hunters, etc) went forward into battle to save humanity. We all eventually died or became the Zombies. Those that remain were the comatose, or the chickens hiding in mommy's basement. These survivors ARE the idiots who survived by accident not by strength and guile. This story is exploring the question of whether the idiots have it in them to "get smart" before they all die. Sure, it's a stretch, but I really want to like this show, and this is the only way I can.

Big Hollywood : Scripted Showrunners: Reality TV Means the 'End of Civilization'

AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!! I couldn't get past the first line of this article. Mr. Nolte, please change "loath" to "loathe". I have seen it wrong SO many times recently, and wrong in both directions. People being loathe to change something that they loath. You've always seemed intelligent to me, and I'm going to assume that your typo is a function of writing quickly for blog publication, and over-reliance on spell check that doesn't verify usage. Those other places - well, I just assume those folks are idiots trying to use big words to make themselves look smart. OK, rant over.

Big Peace : Army Survey: 1 in 5 Officers Are 'Toxic And Unethical'; Many Need To Be 'Removed From Command'

Exactly my question. The Army is a HUGE Organization. The officers are "middle and upper management" but since it's a "government corporation" the typical mechanisms that a corporation has for restructuring and modifying its culture, etc, are not available to it. So...yeah, not a surprise that the number is so high, I'm guessing it's maybe LOWER than other federal departments, but higher than public corporations, just a gut feeling. However, it's not acceptable, and I applaud the Army for publishing those results and there must be sustained effort to improve the officer class. As my nephew is a newly minted 2LT, I kinda hope for better! Oh, and "10 years of continuous operations has strained us", well, ok, yeah, sure. But...aren't "operations" sort of the thing that the Army is supposed to do? Sort of like saying that for 10 years we've been making widgets non-stop?

As soon as I saw that the dude (Abrams) didn't know the difference between loath and loathe, I realized he was an idiot. But the main point - all my life I've been taught that FDR and WWII got us out of the Great Depression. In my gut I knew that was wrong, but couldn't explain it. This article, in a few short paragraphs, gave me the "way to explain it" - the light bulb over my head is now at about 40W. Thank you!

Just an FYI for you Michelle. Your Congressman, John Culberson, I guess wasn't there, but he IS on the side of religious freedom. He sent a letter to Shinseki insisting that Arleen be fired. It's on his site http://www.culbersonforcongress.com/ I just wanted to make sure that his absense wasn't taken as any kind of opposition. Glad to hear that Allen Fletcher was there! We're pretty fortunate to be represented by the kind of folks who don't NEED our calls and letters and hollering at townhalls in order to do the right thing. I'm guessing Arleen will be going on an extended leave soon, and her policy will be reversed. This is the kind of thing up with which we shall not put!

Big Hollywood : Trailer Talk: 'Footloose' Remake, 'Rise of the Apes'

Thanks for posting those extended trailers. They give me enough information about the movies that I will be able to understand the pop culture references, and perhaps even deploy a few myself, without having to actually inflict the movie upon myself. Also - completely agree about CGI - Star Trek TOS with styrofoam rocks pulls me into the story more than most modern CGI stuff. (LOTR being the exception, of course).

Ladd Ehlinger Jr., Hyphenate : My Emails with PatriotUSA76

I think DanPatriot is most likely the kind of obsessive/stalkerish dude you described, working hard to expose the bad stuff that his target might do. Kudos to him. He finally found something! Paydirt! Yay! So he did what he always planned to do, expose the jerk (RAW) for what he is. Now it seems he's actually doing the smartest thing possible in service of his goal - radio silence. This thing needs a few more days to totally get Weiner exposed, and THEN the lefty media goes after DanPatriot they way we know they will. If DanPatriot were to go big and public right now, well, the story becomes all about evil TeaBagger DanPatriot and his Breitbart/Beck minions and Weiner becomes the victim.

Big Government : Weinergate: Private Investigation Will Not Do

At this point, the people MOST damaged by Weiner's refusal of a full FBI investigation are two "regular folks" or "civilians" or "little people". Weiner says he doesn't know the woman but she's getting hassled by the public, and the patriotusa dude is getting death threats. Weiner MUST send this over to the authorities for investigation so that innocent civilians can be cleared or charged. He is hurting LOTS of people with this. As well as making Twitter and YFrog seem like unsafe services, and now there's doubt as to the integrity of Congressional data.

Big Government : Security Expert: The FBI Needs to Investigate WeinerGate

I am really suprised that Weiner hasn't come up with a junior staffer to confess to the prank yet. Is he that arrogant that he thinks this will just go away? Is he too stupid to come up with the idea, and none of his people read conservative blogs where we've been discussing this "solution"? Is he so hated by his staff that none are willing to take the fall? It's one of these three. My money is on the first.

Agreed. If we can just stop giving ammunition to the other guys that would be great. We've got huge issues, and a long way to go to convince the broader public that conservatives are not racists driving grandma off a cliff. Let's focus on the important stuff.
I agree. I don't want there to be a vote that gets voted down, but I am happy to have speeches on the floor expressing thanks, or proposals of resolutions expressing thanks, and leave it at that. Each Congressperson can post a special thanks, do whatever you want on your personal time, but if you said you're not going to do celebratory bills, then don't do celebratory bills. NOT having a big "to do" doesn't mean they aren't appreciated. It's perhaps a bit of legislative modesty. More of that please.
