I've figured out a way to acknowledge the TSTL (too stupid to live) issues and still enjoy the show:

When the Zombie Apocalypse began, the military, law enforcement, and all rational strong warrior types (Tea Party, hunters, etc) went forward into battle to save humanity. We all eventually died or became the Zombies. Those that remain were the comatose, or the chickens hiding in mommy's basement. These survivors ARE the idiots who survived by accident not by strength and guile.

This story is exploring the question of whether the idiots have it in them to "get smart" before they all die.

Sure, it's a stretch, but I really want to like this show, and this is the only way I can.

AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!
I couldn't get past the first line of this article.

Mr. Nolte, please change "loath" to "loathe". I have seen it wrong SO many times recently, and wrong in both directions. People being loathe to change something that they loath.

You've always seemed intelligent to me, and I'm going to assume that your typo is a function of writing quickly for blog publication, and over-reliance on spell check that doesn't verify usage.

Those other places - well, I just assume those folks are idiots trying to use big words to make themselves look smart.

OK, rant over.

Exactly my question. The Army is a HUGE Organization. The officers are "middle and upper management" but since it's a "government corporation" the typical mechanisms that a corporation has for restructuring and modifying its culture, etc, are not available to it. So...yeah, not a surprise that the number is so high, I'm guessing it's maybe LOWER than other federal departments, but higher than public corporations, just a gut feeling.

However, it's not acceptable, and I applaud the Army for publishing those results and there must be sustained effort to improve the officer class. As my nephew is a newly minted 2LT, I kinda hope for better!

Oh, and "10 years of continuous operations has strained us", well, ok, yeah, sure. But...aren't "operations" sort of the thing that the Army is supposed to do? Sort of like saying that for 10 years we've been making widgets non-stop?

Yeah, as far as real money and being a real customer goes, I'm 100% USAA, but that Geico Gecko is a charmer.

As soon as I saw that the dude (Abrams) didn't know the difference between loath and loathe, I realized he was an idiot.

But the main point - all my life I've been taught that FDR and WWII got us out of the Great Depression. In my gut I knew that was wrong, but couldn't explain it. This article, in a few short paragraphs, gave me the "way to explain it" - the light bulb over my head is now at about 40W. Thank you!

Just an FYI for you Michelle. Your Congressman, John Culberson, I guess wasn't there, but he IS on the side of religious freedom. He sent a letter to Shinseki insisting that Arleen be fired. It's on his site http://www.culbersonforcongress.com/ I just wanted to make sure that his absense wasn't taken as any kind of opposition. Glad to hear that Allen Fletcher was there! We're pretty fortunate to be represented by the kind of folks who don't NEED our calls and letters and hollering at townhalls in order to do the right thing.

I'm guessing Arleen will be going on an extended leave soon, and her policy will be reversed. This is the kind of thing up with which we shall not put!

Thanks for posting those extended trailers. They give me enough information about the movies that I will be able to understand the pop culture references, and perhaps even deploy a few myself, without having to actually inflict the movie upon myself.

Also - completely agree about CGI - Star Trek TOS with styrofoam rocks pulls me into the story more than most modern CGI stuff. (LOTR being the exception, of course).
