Wimbledon was epic! Not much else you can say about. But I think the best thing about Wimbledon this year was that it showed the immense depth of men's tennis right now. Andy Roddick has just been a consistent player on the tour for years now and was just considered as a steady last 8 or maybe last 4 performer. But his run at Wimby showed that even he had the drive to improve further so that he could compete again. Larry Stefanki has obviously injected some sort of desire for success back into him.
Even with the world no.1 pulling out, Wimbledon was as exciting as ever!
How many days now 'til Flushing Meadows?!?

Hey Robbie,
Just wondering why - as a UK resident - our coverage of Queen's and Wimbledon, which is done by the BBC, has Jason Goodall in their team but only for Hawk-Eye analysis?
Do they not think he's appropriate for the commentating side of things? Personally my favourite tournaments are the masters series because the banter is much better between you guys.
With the exception of Pat Cash, I find the BBC's commentator's really quite dull!

I think Sunday's final is virtually impossible to call... The kind of tennis Soderling is playing right now is good enough to beat anyone, if he can still keep it up in the final. But Federer has wanted this for so long and I'm sure his desire will be greater, but that in itself adds pressure.
Federer has a good record against people who play like soderling though (aggressive, attacking players) as over the years he has developed a way of soaking up all of the attacking and counter-attacking. But the way Soderling is playing right now I wouldn't even fancy Fed's chances. It's ridiculous how he seems to go for a winner every single shot, but still not giving a way a high number of unforced errors.
I think Federer with the crowd behind him and the knowledge that he's is on the brink of confirming his status as the greatest, will be enough to see him lift the trophy. But only just... I wouldn't be surprised by a five set final.

Davydenko as he has a good record at FO and were it not for injury he would have been seeded higher aswell. But I think Davydenko has a bit of a mental block against Federer and really stuggles to compete with him. Then there's Murray, who probably is the least scared of Federer as his record against him is great. But I dont think he has a great chance of getting to federer. Gonzalez has a good shout but it would hard to call between him and Davydenko. I also think Robredo is a bit of a dark horse. He is behind only Federer and Nadal in terms of match wins at FO and as a clay court specialist he has a good chance but his record against fed suggests that may be a hurdle he won't overcome.
But I will definately be going with Federer's experience in this one and I think he'll have enough to scrape through against anyone left in the draw and get the 'W'.Consider this though. If Roger wins here, then at Wimbledon he will be attempting to beat Sampras' record grand slam haul whilst Rafa will be desperate to defend his title there or his No 1 ranking will be under threat for the first time. That really is exciting!!

How can anyone call at this stage who will win it? I would have to say Federer now, but not just because he is Roger Federer. You just have to look at his record at grand slams (19 consecutive semi-final or better appearances I think). It seems that Federer, over the course of five sets, can almost always find a way to win, which we saw yesterday against Haas. Who would you back to beat Federer?

The Robbie Koenig Blog: Can Anyone Beat Rafa In Paris?....... Yes, apparently.....

Hey Robbie, just wondering whether the tennisTV team of yourself, goodall and wilkinson cover the french open and if so, where can we find that coverage?

With regards to the French Open, I can't see how anyone could beat Nadal at his beloved clay slam. He's too smart on the court. Even when players find a seemingly successful gameplan against him, he makes adjustments to his own game to counter it.

Unless nadal catches swine flu, I don't think anyone else will win win this year...
