Collider : Everything's Bigger in TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, Including Racism

I saw the movie this afternoon and while the Twins were probably the worst thing in the movie (and they had a lot to compete with, but I've heard people refer to them as "Jar Jar" which works for me), to me they were just characters who were stupid and portrayed as black. Were they portrayed as stereotypically white (now sure how one would do that mind), people wouldn't be complaining and yet I'd still say it's as much of an issue. Giving these robots any kind of ethnicity is, to me a little stupid anyway, so we could argue either way, but really, more often than not in these types of movies, people see racism because they're looking for it more than because it's actually there.

/Film : 2012 Movie Trailer

So... as far as destorying landmarks goes, this is essentially a cross between Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow... big explosions and lots of "weather". I'll probably watch it for fun much like I watched The Day After Tomorrow for fun, but I am kinda pissed off that this film is essentially cashing in on a conspiracy theory (a stupid conspiracy theory) that's designed to spread unwarranted fear around the world (oh, the Mayan calender ends on 21/12/2012? Funny, because mine sitting on my desk ends on 31/12/2009, does that mean the world will end then as well?).

/Film : What If Critics Weren't Allowed to See the End of a Film?

I agree really, if a film were to get a fair review, then the critic should see the entire movie to get a feel for what the movie does. There are many important aspects of a film and they include how the story is handled, how the movie opens and importantly, how it ends. Without knowing the ending, the review cant be as complete (not saying a review should be spoilery, just that the overall feel of the film is predicated on how it is seen throughout, not just from choice bits). Really, if they felt that way about keeping the ending a secret, they could have just refused press screenings, many films have done so in the past for whatever reasons.

Collider : GALAXY QUEST - Deluxe Edition DVD Review

How weird, I was just re-watching this yesterday. Awesome film, wholly underrated. The type of film that can parody it's genre while still making a contribution to it. Also features a decent performance by Tim Allen

/Film : Bo Burnham and Judd Apatow's Anti-High School Musical Wants Your Help

Isn't this kind of 'movie by committee'? I mean yeah, writers get inspiration from real life but... well it's usually their own damn lives, or the lives of people close to them. Not random strangers on an impersonal social networking site. I like Bo Burnham, his songs are damn funny, but this is just pathetic.

Film School Rejects : Shouting Match: Toy Story...Overrated?

"Just because something was first doesn’t mean it was best" That, I would suggest is the best thing about it, the fact he creators used CG as a tool and not a crutch. Had Toy Story been made with traditional animation, it probably would have been just as good, namely because the focus was on character and story. You can bet, had someone like Dreamworks attempted something like this, the focus would have on the spectacle of CGI instead of making a decent movie.

Weird. Usually when a major website goes through a site re-design, there's always a group of people who hate everything about it and want it all to be the same as before. It's refreshing to see that's not happening as much here. Oh, and I love the new design. The old design made this site look like "generic blog" that just happened to be about films (and have great content). This new design allows you guys to stand out on your own. Kudos.

/Film : Robert Zemeckis Has A New Idea For Roger Rabbit 2

Oi Vey.... okay, first of all, why the hell do we need a sequel... wait, stupid question, never mind that. I do want to point out that thing to do with motion capture though... um...why? Motion capture is great if you want to make virtual things look like they're moving in a realistic way to how real humans would move. But we're talking cartoons here. TOONS! Animated cartoons have the added value of being, you know, animated. Moreso than we are. Look at Roger in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He's a cartoon through and through, actual humans can't do the twisty, bendy, stretchy stuff he does, that's the charm of a Tex Avery, Warner Brothers, Mickey Mouse type cartoon. What the fuck do you need performance capture for? We have the technology now that allows us to super-impose animation on top of live action in a very easy quick way instead of painting onto enlarged film cells. It worked for Space Jam (don't look at me like that, technically speaking it did work). What the hell more do we need now? Really, don't fix what ain't broke.
