Big Hollywood : Top 20 Horror Films You Absolutely Must See Before You Die

You may not have wanted to double up on King and Romero, but Carrie and Dawn of the Dead fit in my top horror list as well. Add any Val Lewton pic in there (ie: Nick Alexander's suggestion of Cat People) and you won't go wrong either. Also agree with the earlier suggestions of Psycho and The Birds. At 40, I still don't sit in my car with the windows down because of the latter. Completely bugs me out.

Big Hollywood : Today's Open Thread: #25 'WKRP In Cincinnati'

If I had a buck for every time I was asked if there was really a WKRP here, I could afford to fill my gas tank. (There is a WKRQ, but that's as close as it gets.) I miss shows like this. Always good for a smile.

Big Hollywood : Entertainment Spending Increases Everwhere But at the Movies. Why?

Unless I hear from people I trust that a particular movie is a "must see" in a theater to get the most out of it, I just don't even bother. A decent sized screen and surround sound set up at home covers most of the releases well enough, and at a far more affordable rate (using Netflix or On Demand) for a family of four. So far very little Hollywood has pumped out of late has been worth 40 smackers, at least in my family's opinion.

Big Hollywood : Which Abraham Lincoln Will Steven Spielberg Give Us?

Given what he did for the country, I found it difficult to believe that Hollywood could find a way to sully his memory without risking some backlash. Then I saw the Glee episode where Gwyneth Paltrow's character insinuated he was gay and was shown again how every time I try to give even the moderate left the benefit of the doubt....they happily smack me upside my naive little head with it.

Big Hollywood : 'Dennis Miller: The Big Speech' Premieres Tonight on HBO -- Plus a Bill Maher Flashback

Dennis has many amazing qualities, but one of his greatest is the ability to find common ground with a guest no matter what his/her political persuasion is. I've heard him interview complete nutters on the left and still manage to make it enjoyable and insightful. Or sometimes (like his epic Bugliosi interview) he just hands them their butt on a platter and it makes me stand up and cheer.

Big Hollywood : Top 25 Greatest Halloween Films: #16 – ‘Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn’ (1987)

The first time my husband and I watched Evil Dead 2, we were laughing so hard that a neighbor kid who was walking down the street came up and knocked on our door to find out what was so funny. He wound up sitting on the living room floor and laughing right along with us for the rest of the movie. Definitely one of our family's faves, and the reason why we'll watch anything with Bruce listed in the credits.

Big Hollywood : 'Dexter' Review: You Will Love This Serial Killer

You might consider that your viewpoint only promulgates the elitist misconceptions that: a) Bubba doesn't deserve to voice an opinion and b) that the perfection of composition of the message is more important than the message itself. I'm all for proof-reading and grammar, but only being two generations out from WV mountain folk, I'm well aware that it's not necessary to an insightful argument. As to the "I'm better than you comments", it was in reference to the shot at the spammer and the shot you took with the "it's better than SNL, but that's not saying much" comment. Spammers actually have fans too, and just because they make spammish observations here and there doesn't mean that they haven't made valid contributions in the past. I don't understand the point system either, but it really doesn't bother me one way or the other as long as I don't have the red exclamation point. If it got to that point, then I'd use it as a cue that I was posting in the wrong forum. Glad you accepted the apology.

First, I don't believe that you were speaking of football as you imply below because I clicked on the link to your profile to get a bead on your personality to make sure that I wasn't misinterpreting your intent. Most of what I found were criticisms of others' grammar and other assorted topics in the "I'm better than you realm" including a lamentation about why someone you apparently deem less worthy and relevant than you has more thumbs up points. Second, were you referring to football, unless you're a season pass holder to your local team, you would be watching it on TV and it would fall under the "favorite TV show" realm. Add to that the fact that most folks I know don't categorize watching football as worshipping. All that said, if I misjudged your intent then I sincerely apologize, It came off as self-righteous to me in that it seemed as if you were saying I was less than the ideal American for spending my 9pm hour on a Sunday in front of the TV instead of at worship. Mayhaps I was too defensive.

As dark and twisted as it is, week after week I can't help but get sucked in. Sunday can't come soon enough in our house. I've gotten three friends completely hooked on it as well. It's almost like a secret club. People don't want to admit they watch and love it until someone else confesses to it first.

Big Hollywood : Does Our Raunchy Culture Empower Women?

I don't blame men at all. Women would lose out on a key component of empowerment if they chucked out taking personal responsibility for their actions. If I were to point the finger anywhere though, it would be at the NOW hags who promote destructive ideas at young women, while remaining mum on real atrocities like honor killings and mutilation.

Raunch empowers women about as much as abortion does. The women's movement has been getting it wrong forever. Gut said it best...if you wouldn't want your daughter doing it, why is it okay for you to want someone else's daughter to?

No. If you read what I wrote, I'm looking for balance. Breitbart, and Drudge make it possible for me to look at different viewpoints from those that slip through my media filter. Now if I hear something that's become a talking point amongst friends and acquaintances, I can dig deeper and not just get the MSM version. I've then found the balance of multiple perspectives and can come to a conclusion based on that info all on my own.

Big Hollywood : Exclusive: 'Atlas Shrugged' Producer Sets Record Straight On Upcoming Trilogy

My greatest hope is that if they get it done, that it's done well. I don't need big name stars, I just need the message to be clear and not PC'd out the yin-yang. I don't know that I can bear another book I enjoy being slaughtered by too many edits or the false assumption that audiences are too stupid to understand an intricate storyline.

Good point, EdSki. I think I didn't say the internet in general because I feel that in some ways the far left seemed to dominate the tone of internet journalism for a while via HuffPo and the Kos. Now thanks to the Kingdom of Breitbart as well as the Daily Caller and other sites, there seems to be a balance coming back.

I gave up on the downstream media 10 years ago for this very reason. When cable began bringing us the 24/7 news cycle, I was stunned to find that as content went, there was actually less information of value than when I subsisted on one hour of news. We're being bombarded with crap to dumb us down and distract us. The only solution is to turn it off and find the news worth knowing. Thanks to folks like Breitbart, Drudge, and Carlson that task is much easier now than it was a decade ago.

Big Hollywood : REVIEW: ‘Justified’ Rejuvenates Old-Fashioned Hero Type

This is one of the few shows that my better half and I can enjoy equally (Deadwood was another, so I'm biased.) The writing is sharp with a great balance of humor and drama. Blind Spot has been my favorite episode due mainly to the banter between Olyphant and Brown (another Deadwood alum.) Very happy to see it was renewed.
