Unemployment compensation is not public assisstance. Employers are required by law to purchase and maintain unemployment insurance. It is this 'policy' that pays out to the filing unemployed workers. The insurance being, in essence if not in fact, underwritten and paid for by tax dollars is the part that needs fixing
