CTOvision.com : TTPs, CRADAs, MRM, and Fixmo

Although my experience is not in the IT arena, I have been involved in technology transfer from the federal laboratories (DoEnergy) for 2 decades, including recent experience managing multiple Work for Others agreements under a contract from another gov't agency. Without great detail, IMO, w/o understanding of the process, the whole area can be a mine field open to considerable interpretation especially in the area of IP rights. Would be happy to expound but not on the web.

Texas Startup Blog : Is your VC well connected?

Based on this RT, one might wonder if it matters whether he/she/they are conencted or not - @lewisshepherd Maybe VC levels are a *lagging* indicator. @WiredResearch says Q1 VC investment in US = just $3 billion, lowest since '97 http://twitter.com/WiredResearch In Q1, VC investment in the US, spread across 549 deals, reached just $3 billion - the lowest quarterly level since '97.

Texas Startup Blog : Infidelity and Startups

@Jack: Of course character matters, especially in entrepreneurship and investments, although you may have been referring to politics. If someone is going to invest in my company, they are investing in me, and if they can't trust me, why would they invest? As for the point of the post, the fact is that the "business" often becomes the "other woman" just as fast as a pair of nifty legs attached to a great body. The long hours, the level of committment, the cost of simply keeping afloat, the periodic feeling of hopelessness. Or the roller coaster ride of finances and emotions that accompany being in a start-up or even more advanced company. There's a reason why the divorce rate among entrepreneurs is high, and it doesn't necessarily connect to cheating or adultery.

Texas Startup Blog : US Power Projection

While I continue to maintain that NoKo is very adept at International extortion, their threats must be talken seriously. The cycle begins each year as NoKo prepares for the Winter, needing money for food, clothes and medicines. However, each time the cycle occurs, NoKo does get closer to having the ability to atleast try to deliver. At the same time, it is of course, "interesting" that the very system that could defend Hawaii is that which was a promised budget cut.

My friend and colleague Steve Schippert has been following events as they unfold and posted this on ThreatsWatch: Iranian Courage. As well as these: Twitter Feed: Rolling Iran Coverage Iranian Election: Clockwork Orange I think that one of the things to watch is the mergence of the younger generation Iranian (1/5th of the population is still a teenager) that has been exposed to the West and has some degree of technology.

Texas Startup Blog : How to find angel investors revisited

I, too, would prefer Type 3 and 4 angels if I could find them. The Type 1 and 2 people have set ideas of what they want, and often are "dabblers" (just my experience) who "judge" potential according to very stringent criteria. My company has already raised $500K from the Type 5's and spent a total of over $2 million (including grants and personal funds) to get to where we are today.

Texas Startup Blog : Finder Fees?

Its my understanding that an attorney is not permitted to represent a company in a transaction and collect a finders' fee for raising the funds in that transaction (in that case, the attorney would be paid for representing you/your company in the transaction and also recieve a fee from the funder on the other side of the table). I'm not a lawyer, but I have heard of attorneys who raise money for people, but outside of their role and function as an attorney. If the attorney isn't representing you in the transaction, then I suspect it might not be a problem. Then again, as I wrote, I am not an attorney. Perhaps you should ask yours or maybe an attorney will read this and clarify for us all.

I'm sure that you're aware of what my friend and associate Matt Genovese has created with door64 in Austin. That community is a support organization for the Austin technology community along with some stragglers from San Antonio. SA has yet to really coalesce as a community, but the potential is there...as is the likelihood of collaboration between door64 and the Technology Connexus Association (a San Antonio based 501(c)3 dedicated to helping to build the technology community).

Texas Startup Blog : Are you an 'entitlement entrepreneur'?

Let's put it this way. I believe that any investor who doesn't recognize the need for the CEO that he is investing in to have enough money to pay bills and not be distracted by financial worries, should reconsider the relationship. And there is a very big difference between being able to pay bills and run a company without distraction, and seeing the entrepreneur run out and buy a Lexus.

Year end: $300,000 in cash, losses of $3.6 million and CEO salary of $500,000! How does that math "add up?" You've written about "greed" and "entitled entrepreneurs," but not about what appears to be a totally screwed up deal from the beginning. How did the CEO get hired with a "spotty" background in the first place?
