I'm a US military veteran and I acknowledge that the next generation of superpowers will be India and China; just like the US and USSR, Great Britain and France, and Spain and Portugal before them. It's common knowledge that the Chinese eat dogs and cats. The Chinese government has yet to prohibit this as animal cruelty - which is not a surprise considering their record on human rights, let alone animals. Then there's the issue of theft, considering many of these dogs were clearly stolen. The trucking company or company of origin should be shut down for transporting stolen property. Lastly is that these animals had to be purchased for freedom; when you have to pay people to behave in a humane and ethical manner, it says a lot about thier society.
