Big Hollywood : 'Growing Pains' at CPAC: Cameron Decries a Nation 'Off Track'

Too true. So many people seem to be willing to just give up on the work that it takes to right the ship of state. I just hope that enough voters are willing to at least do the work at the ballot box this Nov and decisively send a message to the "powers that be" that we're ready to get back on the right path to prosperity.

Big Hollywood : Daily Call Sheet: Youth Move Online, 'Bridesmaids' Takes VOD Crown, Denzel Waterboarded, and Cancel

Kudos to Denzel for the attention to detail. And for basically saying it works. There's still good music being produced these days, it's just hard to find. Streaming is going to help both the music and video industries when it reaches maturity. Hopefully, it won't be co-opted by greed too quickly. But if it gives us control in what we want to watch and listen to without hassles, then I'm willing to pay a number of small subscription fees to the companies that meet my needs.

That was the episode that captured me as well. "Three Stories". While they did a lot of other very interesting story lines, I could come up with quite a few I remember, none really was quite as captivating as that one.

I agree with the others in reply to your position. Very precise in thought. It's about as close to mine as I've ever heard, or seen. Not that I've articulated it in any fashion, but I will be doing so in the future when need be, now that you have.

Big Hollywood : New Ayn Rand Documentary Wrapping Month-Long Tour

People who rail against Rand and "Atlas Shrugged" do so, in part, because the premise of what she wrote shines a light on their basic philosophy of taking from those who have and giving it to those that don't (the moochers) - or they're in a power position and not in need, potentially being one of the looters.

I was saddened, yet not surprised by this announcement. A couple years ago, I caught up on about the first four seasons as they were being stripped on one of the cable networks. Then I recorded it every Monday since. I really learned to like the unlikable character. I guess I identified with several of his quirks, like the anti-social sentiments, and the belief that everybody lies. Now, I'm not 100% in line with those traits, but it was interesting to see how his character handled it in his world. I got tired of the formulaic practice of basically killing the patient four times within the hour, then House having the ah-ah moment where he stops a conversation in mid-sentence and leaves the room with the unspoken answer. There was only once or twice where the patient wasn't going to be leaving the hospital alive, and that was a little far fetched, but then that's House, and he's a genius!

Big Hollywood : 'An Inconsistent Truth' Debunks Gore's Global Warming Hysteria

Whenever I talk to someone about global warming, I wonder whether people would have been as concerned if they were around back, ohhhh, what?, 1000 years ago?, 2000?, when were the glaciers moving north from what is now our country's prime farmland. Would they have been able to do anything about it? Would they have wanted the ice to remain, knowing what the results are now? I know it's kinda a silly question, but it looks at the big picture, and shows us that we people are small potatoes.

Good point. As neutral as this ad was probably conceived, some very smart people had the opportunity to "finesse" it so that they could add a left leaning subtext, if you're looking for it. It's really kind of like the drug humor of the 60's and 70's. If you didn't know what to look for, it went over your head. Now, yesterday, I wrote that we should just take the pep talk for what it's worth and pull ourselves out of this nosedive into the sewage plant. But nooooo, the media is giving validation to the dust up, (including this here website and its commenters) and now that's all this ad will be known for. Sad. Just sad, that it has come to this.

Big Hollywood : Chrysler CEO: Eastwood Ad 'Has Zero Political Content'

Ok. I know some people are going to see something political in everything. I'm cynical enough to understand that and it doesn't surprise me when it happens. In fact, as I was watching this thing on Sunday, one of my first thoughts was "now, is Clint a lefty or a righty?" It's really a shame that this country has become so politicized. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, has become fodder for polarization of thought. It must be red or blue. Too many people are looking for a reason for conflict, when the answer lies somewhere between. Isn't there some truth to what the copy says? Isn't there a "can-do" attitude that is inherently American? What happened to our exceptionalism? (And the comments I expect as answers to that one are part of the problem.) Don't we really need to hear someone give some kind of pep talk that will help us get our game face on at this moment in history? Clint just happens to be someone that a lot of people have some modicum of respect for. And he certainly does portray gravitas. If we keep going down this drain, we're just going to end up in sewage. I, for one, don't want that to happen. I don't have the answers. I don't think any one person has all the answers. But we as Americans should be able to find our way out of this morass. There's something valuable in that commercial's message. Take the positives in what was said, put them to effect as you can, grab a hand of those around you, and let's get out there and win one for the Gipper!

By far the best moments of the show for me were the guy on the tight line doing the acrobatic moves and Cee Lo singing backup. Lip synching by anyone is frustrating. Catching the missed synched notes is annoying. But... this is what a lot of live acts have become, especially under pressure like the Super Bowl.

The sound level is set louder, sometimes, because it has to be when you have a fuller house. More people absorb more of the sound waves. When you're in a partially filled house, the level needs to be dialed back some. Again, management is the key.

All very valid observations, ms. lady. Out of touch management. Contending only with what those above them are looking for. Voting with our pocketbooks is all well and good, but it's really what we do any way, all the time. It's the most common way of telling them that we don't like their service. I've been on both sides of the issue though. Telling and being told. And it doesn't have much impact most of the time. Sad, really. It's an area of "capitalism" that is lacking in design.

It really comes down to a corporate mentality the way things are run. And in many corporations, the bottom line is expenses. This crosses all industries. In this case, the more restrooms, the more the cost to clean them, employees and supplies. The more food and beverage offerings, same thing. More employees equals more payroll. More food on hand could mean a loss due to spoilage, and a need for more storage space. I know the math should show that the more you serve, the more you make. But we're talking corporate thinking. And that goes "If the customer really wants something, they'll wait to get it. And if they don't wait, the number who pass will probably be small enough not to justify putting more employees on the schedule." I'm with you, Kurt. It should be about trying to serve the customer with all the stops pulled out. It's not very progressive business thinking when you cut corners in certain areas and cause people to not spend money they're willing to part with for a nicer experience.
