Antiwar.com Blog : Liberals Love "Liberty Drones"

I have to point out that the poll said 53% of self-identified liberal DEMOCRATS (I saw the original WP article) approved the policy. Partisanship is a mental disorder.

News From Antiwar.com : US-Funded Textbooks Teach Afghan Children Whitewashed History

"In an effort to bring people together, American history books are removing all mention of the Civil War, slavery and Jim Crow." Think of the problems that would create. Why are blacks disproportionately in poverty? It wouldn't be because of generations of institutionalized discrimination, We would just have to assume it was something genetic.

Part of O'Reilly's mission is to discredit Romney whenever possible. That's why O'Reiily flip flops on Iran. FNC can't stand Romney nor Paul. Ugyar will give Obama credit when he feels it is deserved and will criticize Obama when he disagrees with him--which is most of the time.

News From Antiwar.com : US Vows to Stop All Aid If Palestinians Seek Statehood

The US gives millions of dollars a year to the Palestinian Authority. It gives billions to Israel (about $3B in direct aid and another $2B in loan guarantees). This move shows how opposed to supposed American principles "our" government is: opposing the liberty and self-determination of millions of people. I favor ending ALL foreign aid, but this discrimination motivated by kowtowing to Israel is enraging.

Antiwar.com Blog : Dear Antiwar Progressives: We Are With You

I loved this sentence: "Summers is no libertarian, and frankly, not much of an economist." On several occasions I have called Summers the most incompetent economist in America. One of my biggest complaints with progressives (and I prefer to call myself a liberal) is that they will vote Democratic every time (instead of lodging protest votes for third-party candidates) because they are more afraid of Republicans than they hate the Democrats who always take them for granted and shit on them. The ones who voted for Nader in 2000 had the right idea, but were too small in number to make an effective statement that they couldn't be taken for granted by Democrats. The best thing anti-tax conservatives did to increase their power was to vote in large numbers for Ross Perot in 1992. Bush was destined to lose that election anyway, owing to the recession. By voting for Perot, they made a strong statement that they could not be taken for granted. The Republican politicians have cow towed to them since. Obama is destined to lose in 2012 due to the ongoing high rate of unemployment. So progressives have nothing to lose and everything to gain by abandoning the Democrats this time to vote third party. I predict they will once again be corralled by fear of the boogeyman Republican. They will throw away their leverage by voting for the conservative DINO Obama who has betrayed them consistently. Obama will still lose and progressives will still have no political influence.

Antiwar.com Blog : Antiwar.com's Week in Review | August 19, 2011

A thought on the article on Sunday's front page about Rick Perry saying a "thoughtful discussion" needs to take place regarding withdrawal from Afghanistan and Iraq. That comment is designed to let you read whatever you want into it. It is totally noncommittal to any action and Perry is trying to take two positions on the same issue. Perry says that we should be less eager to jump into a conflict, but then he criticizes Obama's supposed timeline for withdrawal. In other words, tell people that when you do the exact same thing, it will only be after a "more careful" consideration. Once we jump into a conflict, we can never leave no matter how pointless and wasteful it is to continue. Rick Perry is nothing but a Jesus-praising Barack Obama with a Texas drawl.

Antiwar.com Original Articles : Why Is America Committing Suicide?

There are things we could do to decrease the deficit that would not hurt a recovery: end the wars, end foreign aid, decrease military spending besides ending the wars. Money flows out of the economy through all those things, especially maintaining foreign military bases. Most of the rest of the military budget is a corporate welfare program for the politically connected. We should also raise taxes on incomes above a certain level (like at least $1-million) because that money largely just sits in savings while there is little business investment going on. Corporations are sitting on two trillion dollars of cash reserves because the economy is so weak. Beyond that, the government needs to run deficits for the next few years so that we can grow our way out of the recession and the deficit. Further austerity measures should come later. Keynes was absolutely right. Interest rates are near zero and the economy is stagnant because we are in a liquidity trap caused by trillions of dollars of wealth being wiped out in 2008. That caused a collapse of aggregate demand. This is the first recession since the Great Depression that requires Keynes' solution to such a liquidity trap. (Keynes believed that monetary policy should be used instead when dealing with cyclical recessions.)

News From Antiwar.com : Goldman Sachs: US Faces Credit 'Downgrade' if it Counts Eventual End of War as 'Deficit Reduction'

The bigger gimmick is downgrading the credit rating if the deficit isn't cut. This is a phony crisis. The US had a larger debt-to-GDP ratio at the end of WWII. The real crisis is an economy stalled by a collapse of aggregate demand. Interest rates are extremely low. That means the debt is not a drag on the economy and there is nothing more that monetary policy can do. A growing economy would do more to erase the deficit than the proposed cuts in spending, so now is the time to engage in deficit spending to kick-start the economy. Apparently the crooks at Goldman Sachs who are largely responsible for crashing the economy want to see the recession drag on longer than the war in Afghanistan.
