Since when is Saddleback Ranch a gay bar? That's news to me. There are bars that are known as specifically gay, this isn't one of 'em.

Ugh! This is the sort of immature imbeciles I'm surrounded by in LA - immature, mean and ignorant. So this guy actually manages to make a living with that intellect, huh? PS This dweeb reminds me of the weak male stooges who needed the mean girls approval in my Jr. high school, so taunted me along with his catty friends. What a hideous excuse for a human. Grow up.

Big Journalism : The 'Oh Snap!' Files: "Do You Have a Degree in Economics?"

Good point, Dana! Contessa, as any good journalist would, should have done her homework. As a curious person and writer for magazines, I actually loved and enjoyed the interview process. I NEVER would have done an interview without doing my research. And, if for some reason I could not do my research, I would NEVER have made such a stupid assumption, as Ms. Brewer did. But then, Contessa doesn't seem too wise. No amount of degrees can give a person wisdom.

I never gave a hot damn about Palin... but the years of press hysteria about her, media obsession, their want to twist her life into hateful lies, have me respecting Palin. Anyone who can put up with Mass Media's immature crap, the way she does, must be strong, must have principles, must have have something important she wants to convey. I just have to get through the fog of propaganda to find out what it is. So I will be going to see this in Orange, California. Screw you, press a-holes!

Yick! Bourdain also went to Saudi Arabia and thinks he's being "tolerant" for his hip openness to how women are treated like abused pets. And that other little dweeb, Rick Steves, giggled like Elmo getting tickled while being a useful idiot in Iran... Oh look how tolerant Steves is of Iran's cultural differences. Yeah, stoning women to death, hanging gay men and all around oppression is just their culturally exotic way of doin' things. Who is Steves to question? If Bourdain and Steves aren't ignorant about what really goes on in these countries, then their promotion of these totalitarian regimes is blatant propaganda. Disgusting.

Big Journalism : The Cult of Irony and the Washington Post

Argh! If there is one thing (and there are about 2,356 things) that liberals repeat that drives me, an ex-liberal, crazy - it's this: The right is cult-like. I should know! I was once a brainwashed, lock-step liberal zombie. I grew up in very liberal (hippie community) surroundings of 60s/70s San Francisco, and was bathed in liberalism from morning til night. It wasn't until I grew up, had many hard-earned experiences, life-altering, eye-opening epiphanies and debates with liberals (repetitious parroting of liberal jargon, without deep thought) that led me to my own conclusions... which, until then I didn't realize, were conservative leaning views. I grew up spewing liberal swill. But no one in my life (teachers, parents, friends, neighbors, classmates...) contradicted my ignorant (I had no experience, was just parroting) rants. As a matter of fact, my liberal rants got me As in my poetry classes and nodding smiles at LA parties. Only when I began thinking "differently" than my group, did I realize that everyone around me speaks the same liberal language. It's gotten to where I know the exact lines they will say. I speak about my experiences as a business owner, hippie kid who saw the world, parent... they rarely respond with personal experiences, only Dem talking points or quotes from socialist professors decades earlier. Yet they think I'm brainwashed. I opened my eyes after realizing liberals focus on dependency, politically correct speech codes, taunting individuals (including me) who don't agree with their groupthink. They put us in boxes by color and race; try to divide us further with our income levels. So I began reading different view points, and realized conservationism respects individuals - which is just what I have been looking for. Now I know from being on both sides, that the philosophy of conservatism is the antithesis of a cult, which the Democratic party has become; they're the ones who must prey on the work of others, who must dupe people into believing that our color, gender and income level are what is important, not each of our intrinsic unique characters and principles. Liberalism preys on dependence, collectivism and groupthink = a cult. Did Richard Cohen not watch the Obama hysteric mobs of the '08 campaign, how the crazed masses resembled a Jim Jones Kool-Aid party? That he thinks conservatism is a cult is nothing more than continued Orwellian Democratic propaganda. I should know, I was brainwashed by their propaganda for decades.

Big Hollywood : Report: John Lennon Closet Republican, Ronald Reagan Fan

This was the highlight of my week! I grew up a child of young hippie parents who had every Beatles' album. Their songs were like my nursery rhymes, lullabies, the soundtrack to my entire life... I loved these men as if they were my rambunctious and talented uncles. Yet, as I've rethought my once liberal views and had a child, I could never understand John Lennon's naive politics and his hypocritical parenting (abandoning Julian). But after reading this news and that he regretted the way he didn't parent Julian, I thought... Hmmm.... John had grown up. So sad that he couldn't have time to spend with Julian and to share his new world views with his fans.

Big Hollywood : How I Wound Up on The Black List

Wow... I guess another benefit of being self-employed, as I am, is not having to deal with politics at work. My friends are all in the arts or music business in Los Angeles, so I've had many experiences similar to Jeff's. Just after 9/11, when I began realizing I'm no longer a liberal, I had friends over for dinner. Everyone was sharing opinions on issues. But then I shared mine. My female friend pulled herself into the fetal position, put her hands over her ears, began sobbing and stuck her head in her lap. She stayed that way for half an hour before leaving. Then, of course, I've been called a racist for disagreeing with Obama's intrusion into Honduras, and previously for suggesting little old ladies from Norway probably shouldn't be profiled at the airport like some other groups... Having grown up with hippie parents in SF, we'd join my conservative grandpa (he voted Democrat, but conservative compared to my parents) for dinner and have loud, interesting conversations about politics, etc. But nobody ever stomped off in an intolerant rage. As the lone conservative in my circle in Los Angeles , I know when I toss in my opinion... things will likely get ugly.

Big Hollywood : Irony: Fox-Obsessed Jon Stewart Calls Fox News 'Crybabies'

I agree! I like Howard, and respect people who think for themselves. He was my morning habit for many years. In these days of the politically correct thought-police, and those who're constantly offended, I loved that Howard and his crew didn't care about any of that. I just haven't heard him since he moved to Sirius. Otherwise, I'd listen every now and then. And it was really interesting to hear 9/11 from his, a NYer's, perspective.

Sorry to copy my own previous comment about why I find Stewart un-watchable, but it fits here perfectly: His smug, face-making makes me cringe as he mocks people he feels aren't as hip and informed as he is. Nope, I can't watch him without remembering this: When I was a liberal, I listened to Howard Stern's radio show in the mornings. That's how I heard about the towers being hit on 9/11, on Howard's show. After absorbing all the news I could, I returned to Howard's show to get NYers' experiences. On the day after 9/11, or the one after that, Jon Stewart called in, sobbing, gasping, nearly hysterical, blurting out something like "What are we gonna do? What's going to happen...?" Stewart's juvenile, out-of-control fear made me slightly repulsed and very uneasy. I'd just watched firemen run UP the World Trade Tower stairs. Our military was ready to defend us. Medical workers were collecting blood. And this little comedian was all fear. I wanted nothing to do with that. I stopped listening to Howard and began informing myself. That was the beginning of the end of my liberal life. I began catching up with history I never knew about due to my spotty public education and previous lack of curiosity. I began reading writers I'd never would have read before, many were conservative. Their philosophies, opinions and ideals were new to me. While my liberal up-bringing didn't expose me to any of this new (to me) information, it appealed to what I'd been craving - common sense, logic, personal responsibility, recognition of the groupthink/politically correct world that I was repulsed by (even as a lib). I never want to return to that uninformed person I used to be. Jon Stewart represents all of the liberalism I am so happy I fled. His fans may think it's hysterical to mock people who don't tow the liberal line... I find it repulsive. He's not just a comedian. He's a jester/activist who helps keep the group-thinkers in line, i.e. agree w/ me or you'll be mocked.

Big Hollywood : George Washington’s Words Through the Prism of Today: Part 3

Janine, great piece! My mom - a former '60s hippie liberal and now passionate conservative - sent me this powerful video: http://youtu.be/HAvMHWhdEUU This woman on the video, a survivor of Nazism and Communism, adds another layer to your points. It's worth watching. Her first chilling point: The media had it wrong, Hitler didn't roll in and take all rights away... he came in with promises of jobs, first. He was a great, charismatic speaker who won people over, so they naively believed Hitler. Then he took their rights away one at a time, over years. That's often how it happens. Castro, too, came in with charisma and hope, swearing he was not what he really is. Speaking to my mom the other day, we both agreed, since I was a child, things have changed drastically. Her crowd, who questioned The Man, could never have imagined the government would be touching our private parts at airports. Now, many of those old hippies just comply. Guess they used all their fire up in the '60s, and now just want the government to take care of them. Today's liberals are nothing but compliant drones. One such drone wrote an op-ed in the LA Daily news that said, basically, we should all be happy with our "socialized infrastructure" and stop complaining. She also says that what our founding fathers meant by "the pursuit of happiness" is our work toward "the greater good," i.e., working in soup kitchens, volunteering as poll workers. For a laugh, here's the op-ed I referred to: http://bit.ly/lvYj5y How sad is that? So brainwashed is she, she's just making stuff up about what the founding fathers REALLY meant, to justify her compliance with a government gone mad.

Big Hollywood : Liberal Salon to Jon Stewart: 'Actually, You Are an Activist'

Part II: (From above) P.S. Stewart believes conservatives are uninformed? So my Cuban friend - who had his home, business and belongings confiscated by Castro, and is now a conservative in the US - is uninformed? Or my friend who fled post-Islamic revolution Iran with only his life and is passionately conservative, is uninformed? Or all the people I've met from old USSR, Poland, Vietnam, who are conservative... these people are conservative because they are not informed? No, Jon, your intolerance and close-minded attitude about who is and who is not informed make you nothing more than a bigot in city-boy clothes, with a cadre of writers, who makes silly faces..

Big Journalism : Scientists Agree, Salon Is Making False Claims To Spread Climate Change Hoax

After the climate scandal broke (which I think is one of the most corrupt events in my lifetime, involving funded scientists, govt agencies, corporations, media and the brainwashing of an entire generation of school children) - I posted all the questionable material I could on my site. Especially creepy - beyond all the questioning scientists who are silenced and mocked, and the corporations who collude to profit from carbon trading - is Al Gore's promotion of global warming as a religion, complete with prayers to the planet. Here's my site: http://tinyurl.com/29art2w I'm not a scientist either. What I am is logical enough to see the hysterical people around me screaming "It's global warming!!!" whether it's hot, cold, snowing, drought conditions... nothing matters. It doesn't matter to them that the planet has gone through ice ages, warming, continental separating (not a weather condition, but proof of the planet moving on w/out us) - all prior to human existence. Years ago, I stood in a movie line behind, and eavesdropped on, a male couple in West Hollywood who were aghast that ANYONE WOULD QUESTION Al Gore's movie on global warming. I had to laugh. Just weeks earlier, I was talking to a scientist friend who spoke about how solar flares, etc. could spike temperatures... but being the level-headed thinker she is, was hardly going to give a definitive answer, only that she was skeptical about anthropogenic global warming. Yet these two in West Hollywood mocked anyone who dares question the great Al Gore (He of the D-grade in science, faulty numbers, bad graphs, hysterical propaganda and ties to Enron in his carbon trading scheme). But we who aren't hysterical are the crazies? Then I'm crazy!
