Zelda Universe : Rumor: Retro working on a Skyward Sword sequel?

Oh, I'm certainly not saying I couldn't see the *benefits* to Retro pioneering a Zelda title. I'm saying that it seems highly unlikely that Nintendo would hand it off to them given the history of games that go to Retro. Games that go to Capcom are different. I see a higher likelihood that Capcom would be asked to develop, say, Zelda 3DS (although still pretty unlikely). Retro seems to be Nintendo's go-to studio for franchises that are in dire need of rebooting. They did that with Metroid, and did it again with Donkey Kong (though it was kind of a retro-reboot). If this is true, however, I'll put my foot in my mouth and be pretty happy to see what Retro comes up with.

Zelda Universe : Rumor: Retro working on a Skyward Sword sequel?

This rumor happened a while ago. Sorry, but it's definitely untrue. Nintendo hands off its languishing franchises to Retro; ones it hasn't developed titles in for a while. It was more surprising that they didn't hand off Kirby to Retro (Kirby is seriously starting to languish). Zelda isn't changing hands, especially after the blockbuster that was Skyward Sword. Oh, and to clarify: I'm posting this as a random guy, not as owner of ZU commentating on a story he should have already read :B

This timeline is missing about six more splits around when Link had a donut that turned out to be a time portal. That was a mess. Zelda is more complicated than Doctor Who.

Zelda Universe : Mailbag Sunday: Cody Returns

The other reason why technology can be "advanced" while not being, say, a gun, is because there's an uncanny valley surrounding realistic weaponry. Nintendo will never add bullet-shooting guns to Zelda because it doesn't fit in the world - a highly stylized representation of a fantasy realm. When you've got magic, it's hard to imagine a need for bullets and such. There will never be a gun in the Zelda series. There will, however, be various incredibly "advanced" things powered by all sorts of fussed magic. Like electricity powering time shift stones powering hover carts. All ridiculous, but awesome. You won't ever see tech that isn't like that in Zelda. Even the train in Spirit Tracks is explained as only being able to move since it's on mystical tracks.

As far as I know, it was SuperDecimal or someone that SuperDecimal knew :D Then I took the inside joke and used it in the mailbags. A lot. Specifically in the first-ever Fireside Mailbag. Which I think made it mainstreamified due to the epic combination of Old Spice Guy and Fabulosity.

Zelda Universe : Updated: New circle pad peripheral for the 3DS

Playing games? I know of no good significant games out for the 3DS right now other than Ocarina of Time (and I suppose Star Fox, which either just came out or is about to I believe). Perhaps people should focus on building killer games for the 3DS, instead of peripherals that nobody is going to buy bundled with software nobody wants. I don't know who's bad brainchild this peripheral was, but I will guarantee you one thing: It's not going to sell at all. It's the size of the entire system. It looks like it brings the console to Game Gear/Nomad proportions, which would destroy the whole portability bit of owning a portable console. I'm sure it takes batteries. If it doesn't, it saps the already lackluster battery life of the 3DS. The 3DS didn't need two circle pads; if it did, it would have shipped with two circle pads. In fact, it really didn't need both a circle pad AND a D-pad, though I get using it to control retro games, it really clutters up the whole system. From a UX point of view, the current layout of the 3DS is ridiculous and difficult to want to jump onto. It's not the best build quality in the world, the screen ain't great, and overall playing feels awkward with two screens of different aspect ratios. It's not exactly appealing to whip out of your pocket, either. My point? The 3DS has way too many issues and elements that need *cleaning up* and *removal* for Capcom (I have a hard time believing Nintendo is making this thing) to attempt to *add* to the console. Especially... well, like this. Yeah, I have a really hard time believing this came out of Nintendo. Wouldn't be the first time that a third party developer had released an ugly and useless peripheral for a Nintendo console. (Stay classy, Activision!)

Noted! Good info - I'd heard things were different elsewhere. Shouldn't be an issue right now since the box accepts any email address, and we just have a script that selects what emails to allow to sign up. No challenge at all to use .ac.uk if a UK school gets picked.

No, it's absolutely nothing like Blackboard. Blackboard's nothing but a file storage and distribution system for professors. GoodSemester is a productivity tool; they're totally different classes of software. GoodSemester not only has more features, but implements them in a completely different and new way. Blackboard is also a piece of software, not a global service. They're really not comparable in any sense of anything - GoodSemester is brand new, and is something like you've never seen before. That said, GoodSemester makes Blackboard and Moodle completely, utterly obsolete.
