I think your judgement or observation are clouded are partial to Robert and Lance, and that's natural because they are family and you've known them for a very long time. "It was not used as a punch line . . . " - In Robert's response to me, he specifically stated it's used as a punchline. "Nicknames are expressions of affection and love." - This is not necessarily true. In many cases yes, but I also know of many cases in which nicknames come about because one if being made fun of. I'm aware of the history of them using Walt towards each other, that it was used way before I came into the picture and I addressed that in my email. But if they know that's a sensitive for me, then out of love and acceptance, I think they should filter themselves around me. I feel like I came to them asking for bread, and they gave me stones.

Hey Larry, you mentioned that Obama doesn't respect anyone. Can you give me an example of how he has been disrespectful to another politician in a public setting? I want to understand where you are coming from. I stated three examples in which elected officials have been disrespectful, but other than disagreeing on policy, I don't recall our current president showing any kind of disrespect to another elected official. Sure, there's campaigning and disagreement on policy, but I would like to understand what you think he has done to show he doesn't respect anyone, in particular, the office that is held and whether it was in a public setting.

Back on Sept 11, 1998 at the White House prayer breakfast, Bill Clinton specifically stated he sinned and asked for forgiveness from God, Hillary, Monica and the Lewinsky family, and others. But I guess in the eyes of some, no matter what he says or does, it will never be genuine enough. http://www.historyplace.com/speeches/clinton-sin.... http://articles.nydailynews.com/1998-09-12/news/1...

BagOfNothing.com : Interfaith Alliance Criticizes New Rick Perry “Strong” Ad

Hey Wendell - What I think a lot of people forget about my blog is that just because I post something doesn't mean that I'm either against or support what the post is about, that is unless I specifically add my commentary or thoughts. So in this case, I didn't make a single comment about the Interfaith Alliance (which I'm not familiar with) or the Rick Perry clip. I just wanted to post it without any of my thoughts or opinions and see what others thought about it. I think you'd agree that my blog touches quite a bit about faith, and also touches politics from time to time, and things about our beloved state . . . and with all these elements included in this story, I thought it was BoN worthy. Now, when I do my Bag of Randomness, I certainly throw in my opinions and thoughts, but I would say about 90% of my non-Bag of Randomness posts don't carry any of my thoughts/opinions/commentaries - they are just things I post that I think my readers would be interested in and I let them interpret and think themselves. As for me being a Rick Perry hater . . . you're right, I'm not a fan of the man, but I don't like saying that I'm a hater. Hate is a very powerful word and I try to avoid it for the most part. And I'm not trying to hide the fact that I lean to the left, and I'm not here to claim that most of my posts are for one party or the other, I'm just saying that when I post something there isn't an agenda behind it other than bring something to my readers that I think they might find interesting, might not normally be exposed to, or just to get them to think a little. However, when I do add my thoughts and opinions to a post, I try to approach it reasonably and with an open mind, and above all, try to be rational - and being human, I do fail at that at time. But in this case, this was just nothing more than me just making a post.

I appreciate you taking the time to reply, Jonathan, and I feel like you've done so with grace and respect. Thankfully we have met and have a relationship so I know how to take your comments. And trust me, I don't think you are calling me an idiot. So far my thoughts align with George's and a lot of what Peter King has said In his MMQB column on SportsIllustrated.com. One, there is so much we still don't know, and the other, every company I've worked for tells us the first thing we need to do other than an emergency (like a fire, or shooting) is to contact either your manager or the HR department. In the workplace, we are even encouraged that after reporting such a thing, not to comment any further about it to any other party. So in Paterno's case, he may have thought the authorities have been contacted. I hate to think how a person's life would be ruined if the cops were called for such an act and the act actually didn't happen, that it was only founded upon an eye-witness that didn't actually call the cops. But as things continue to unravel, and we find out Paterno absolutely knew things from way back when, I'll have a different view. Right now I'm not convinced he knew as much as

Thanks for replying, Jonathan. I wanted to throw my thoughts out there to see what I'm missing that everyone else is picking up on, and you are helping. I'm basing my opinions of the matter from the Penn AG website (http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/press.aspx?id=6270) and the grand jury report (http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/uploadedFiles/Press/Sandusky-Grand-Jury-Presentment.pdf). I don't know if I trust the 'lame stream media.' ;-) So Paterno didn't know that there were investigations of his Assistant Coach in 1999? I can't find any evidence that Paterno knew of the investigations and if it was being hid from him. If Paterno did know about this going back to 1999, then my opinion would change entirely. He didn't know that the grad assistant came and told him he saw something suspicious in the shower? The grad assistant did indeed tell Paterno, but we don't know exactly what he said to Paterno from what I read in the grand jury report. I know when I speak of sensitive things to a father or grandfather figure I describe things differently than those around my own age, but my point is we don't know exactly what Paterno was told. Paterno did tell the man in charge of campus police, and I understand that isn't the same as actually going to the police, but what if that charge was false because the grad assistant had it out for him? Not to mention, once you report that kind of info in the workplace, at least for the organizations I've worked for, you are told just to report and leave it alone. He didn't know that Sandusky was under grand jury investigation last month, and still allowed him into the weight rooms as recently as last week? I think Paterno did know about the grand jury invstigation, I think that has been going on for three years, but Sandusky's keys were taken away in back in March of 2002, not last week. I did get that last piece from the lame-stream media (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/09/penn-state-scandal-timeline-jerry-sandusky_n_1084204.html?ref=mostpopular) In terms or morals, the protection of children has to be at the top of the list, but I'm also wanting to believe in our justice system, that one is innocent until proven guilty. Thanks for helping me expand my thoughts on this, Jonathan. I just want to understand what I'm missing that everyone else is picking up on.

Your response appears to indicate that Paterno knew what was going on was absolutely true, and that he had knowledge of those other incidents. After reading the 23-page grand jury report and watching all the coverage, I'm still not convinced he knew about all the other incidents, just what the grad assistance told him. As things continue to develop, I may have to change my stance on that. He also reported the incident to the person that oversees campus police, so he did deal with the situation. But like I said, as things continue to come out, I may have to change my mind. And yes, if all this is true, remember Sandusky hasn't been convicted, my heart goes out to those poor kids and their families.

I stand corrected, Kim, thanks. But one item I tried to convey was that if you saved an Office, Lotus, or WordPerfect file on a Mac, then you couldn't open it on a PC. And I think once that ability became available, that really gave consumers a chance or at least be more willing to try Apple products.

You're right, the television would be the best choice. ;-) Let me put it like this, if I only have a few grand to spend, and I have a choice between a vacation and a new television, I would choose the television hands down. No right or wrong answer here, but my reasoning is the television is something we as a family with gather around almost every day for hours upon a time bonding with one another. It's something that will continually bring us together as opposed to a four day stay with one another. Now a trip to a national park or the Smithsonian would provide priceless memories and a grand experience, but I like the idea of having something we can use to bond over, over a long period of time.

There's no right or wrong answer here, but I found that items purchased help create those memories. I could always go in my backyard as a kid and swim in our pool. I had many friends come over many days, and built up many happy memories with numerous friends and family. Many will discount the value of a good video game system or even a basketball goal, and with both, I was able to bond with close friends and make new friends, which also created memories that no one can take away. It comes down to what you purchase. A diamond ring won't really bring a lot of memories, though it can be passed down, but the days of trading baseball and football cards and comics for hours on end with my friends and talking to my father about those players and characters were priceless.
