NWQueen: names of good groups have been taken over for naming the bad for a long time. Back when microcomputers were a hobby curiosity up until the first name-brand computers were coming in, there were people who would go into these mysterious new devices and tinker around. Change this part, adjust that one, add another. It was like my brother and his crowd doing things with their cars to hop them up. They were nothing more than the electronic equivalent to "let's see what this baby will do...!"

These electronic hopper-uppers were called "hackers". That devolved from hopper-uppers to the same mentality that will drag a key down the side of a brand new car: they ruin things for others with viruses, denial of service attacks, etc.

Nordstrom's is there to meet the needs of discriminating flash-robbers. When the pianist is replaced by some dude with two turntables and a control board, you will know the end is near.

ktmnama: I understand your heightened dudgeon. Many throw the word "liberal" around rather freely. I think the better term would be "leftist". I know, and have known, plenty of folks who are broad-minded about many things but still want a well-ordered society that is low on crime, high in civility, and do not buy into all this PC nonsense.

No, black people are not the only ones taking advantage of the system. But when was the last time you saw a Lubavitcher flash-rob? When was the last time you got driven out of your mind by a Thai with a loud radio on the MAX? An Englishman acting out in a restaurant at the wait-staff over a phony defect in the food they were served? When did you ever hear "Oh, yah, I'm gonna bust a cap in his a**, yahbetcha!"?

Kachina, I agree. But there are so many in jail for non-violent offenses it's crazy. Maybe send the guy caught smoking a doobie, or renting the services of a lady of the evening, in to one jail. Send the flash-robbers, car-jackers, sucker-punchers etc to a different prison. A prison with no cable, no weight room, no nothing. BASIC medical care, fine.

As for food: they grow their own. Watch old movies like NOrthside 777 with Jimmy Stewart. The prison scenes show a tough place and the prisoners tilling fields. No SODEXHO-Marriott or ARA-Mark doing the food service. I would suggest prison industries, but that puts the state in competition with private enterprise while not paying taxes or "living wage".

Recreation? Maybe a ball or two, or a piano in the corner of the mess hall. A library, certainly. Can't read? Too bad you "kept it real" and didn't "act white". But, none of this cable nonsense.

They KNOW they can get away with it. They know that no white, or "white hispanic" is about to put up self-defense because to do so invites a kangaroo trial; and Jesse, Al, and Eric will be on the next plane to PDX.

One has to wonder when Nordstrom's will close. I recall shopping there. It's a nice store in what had been a nice center. Closing it in, and adding convenient public transportation rang its death knell.

Art: liberalism is a minor part. What killed Lloyd Center was enclosing it. When it was open, it was too warm in the summer and too cold in the winter to just "hang with the homies" or whatever the accepted term is among those people. I have already commented elsewhere on here that more than one predicted what LC would become by enclosing it, adding a food court, and a multi-screen movie house.
