- In other words, it took twice as many big-budget movies over Christmas 2011 to match the ticket sales of Christmas 2010. It takes creative accounting by lawyers and marketing weasels and Hollyweird denial of the harsh reality to put a positive spin on that negative return on their investment…
- Imagine if the GLAAD Gestapo was around in the late 50s during the production of “Some Like it Hot” or in the late 60s during the production of “Monty Python” or any number of movies and TV series featuring cross dressing. From the previews I’ve seen of “Work It” it looks like a sad attempt at reworking the unwatchable early 80s sitcom “Bosom Buddies” with Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari. The GLAAD Gestapo needs to lighten up and find a sense of humor…
- I was thinking the same thing. “The Legend Ends” yet “The Dark Knight Rises.” Is Batman rising, ending or are the marketing weasels just schizophrenic?
- I loved Harry Morgan a character actor in so many great movies and I’ll continue enjoying his terrific performances. However, I hated everything about his years on the Alan Alda Show… I mean MASH…
- I think you are too generous with your statement that movies have been in a mere 15-year decline. I’d say it’s more like a 30-year decline going back to the origins of the big-budget movies by Spielberg and others, home video and pay TV. The behavior of knuckleheads within the entertainment industry who continuously piss on the American public just makes it even less likely that I’m going to give them any of my money…
- No thanks! I’ve never watched “Live! With Regis and (fill in the co-host’s name)” or anything with Regis Philbin on purpose except maybe on a dare…
- Creating a list like this is like making a top ten list of the 10 most overrated cities of all time. Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn and Gregory Peck may well be overrated, but they are from a different era and belong on a separate list from Dustin Hoffman, Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson or George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. Bill Murray just doesn’t belong on any list of great actors because nobody considers him to be a great actor…
- Frank Miller is my new hero!!!
- Ugh! The emperor is indeed wearing no clothes!!!
- The animation in this movie looks creepy, as in “Polar Express,” and it’s unfortunately being released in 3D too. My first reaction when I heard that Spielberg was remaking “The Adventures of Tintin” on the big scream was, “Why Tintin?” I watched the original animated series on HBO years ago and the stories failed to draw me in. I hope the movie is everything that fans hope it will be and they enjoy it. Tintin may be widely popular throughout the world, but like soccer it will never be as popular here in America.
Philip Kaufman’s 1978 version of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” is many things, but doesn’t even come close to being “a pointless exercise” and is widely regarded as a classic of the genre. It serves as both a sequel to the original classic movie as well as a remake. Try giving it another viewing...
