Big Hollywood : 33 Years After His Death, John Wayne Is a Bigger Movie Star Than George Clooney

I just recently watched The Cowboys, one of my favorite Wayne movies and in it there is a scene where he is saying goodbye to his wife before starting out on his drive to Montana. IIRC, Wayne is giving last instructions and she stops him and says something to the effect of "take care of yourself, I'll be thinking of you." And he says [sic] "don't do that." When she asks him why not, he gives her this look and says "you won't be able to sleep." And the woman in me when YEEEEEEAAAAAH! *fans self* Now imagine Clooney saying that. The woman in me says EWWWWWW!!

Big Hollywood : Trailer Talk: 'Moonrise Kingdom' Offers Vintage Anderson Quirk

I just want to know something: when are we going to get through with the 60s/70s revival? Everytime I see those colors/styles/hairdos etc, I get this sick feeling in the base of my stomach. I lived through it the first time - was SO glad when things changed in the 80s...and here I am, not even in the first breath of my middle age and Im having to watch people actually romanticize that time period?! Are they serious? Can we find some of way of stopping the fashionistas/nostalgia from digging down to *that* particular layer of the garbage dump and excavating all those things we were so very happy to get rid of the first time? Just because it was all plastic and polyester and pretty much in the same shape as it was the day it was banished from our lives does NOT mean it should be resurrected.

Big Hollywood : 'Good Morning Vietnam'/'Dead Poets Society' Blu-ray Review: A Hit and a Competently-Made Miss

I am glad others like Good Morning Vietnam...I can never watch a Robin Williams movie when my husband is in the house because he hates the man so...but I think he's brilliantly funny (although it still jars when he goes Leftist Catty Swipe). I remember when GMV first came out - I was very moved. Dead Poets Society was good but too melodramatic. I guess it seemed overreaching to me to have a character commit suicide simply because Daddy didn't like him being in plays...but then I guess the lesson of the film was that the young man missed entirely the point of William's advocacy of rebellion? I dunno. That was just one of the things that rang a bit false for me.

Anyone who uses the word "jingoistic" to decribe a film (or any endeavor that uplifts America and its people) should be given a back-handed slap with a tire-iron.
Brevity is the soul of wit...and nothing could be wittier than your summation of Hollywood, John. I think it should be the mantra now: Dick move, Hollywood. We have choices now.
Big Hollywood : 'Trespass' Movie Review: Cage's Mojo Infects Co-Stars

Im sorry, but I know youre a guy and Kidman's female and guys give pretty females the benefit of the doubt all the time, but really, it makes sense that Kidman is in a movie with Cage because she is, as you pointed out about ol' Nick, she's as unhinged as he is in her acting. I really think her peak was in "Far and Away". She's not all that, really. Pretty, yes. Would love to have her coloring and height...but meh on the rest of her. Having said all that, I still like Cage in National Treasure, largely because it was a movie about American history - yes it took liberties with it, but I see it the same way that the Harry Potter moms see those books: it got my child to look at history from a whole different perspective. It delighted both of us to see American history presented in such a positive light.

Big Hollywood : Coming in 2012: Yet Another Iraq War (Flop?) Film

You stupid putz. Try as you might, the dead horse meme you continue to flog is ALWAYS going to be wiped out by the real news that comes out of history. Guess you were screaming at your mama to bring you more cheese puffs and soda water when this was posted: Mistress of Disaster: Jamie Gorelick http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/09/mistress_o... "Well, as un-imagineable as this is, there is one American who doesn't have to imagine it. One Jamie Gorelick is this American. And without pretending that she caused the loss of countless thousands of lives and countless billions of dollars of wealth by herself, she certainly did push some of the early domino's in catastrophic chain events that are a major factors in life in America today. This is not a bad millineums's work, when you think about it. Gorelick, an appointee of Bill Clinton, is the one who constructed the wall of separation that kept the CIA and the FBI from comparing notes and therefore invading the privacy of nice young men like, say, Muhammed Atta and Zacarius Moussaoui. While countless problems were uncovered in our intelligence operations in the wake of 9-11, no single factor comes close to in importance to Jamie Gorelick's wall."

Funny - I seem to remember Jamie Gorelick was part of the CLINTON administration. But then I guess you're one of those who think 9-11 should have happened on BillyJeff's watch...you'd have an even better argument to crow about how America deserved it. Do us a favor: just hole up within and seal the entrances to your basement and give your poor mother a break. She really wants to go see her boyfriend, not cater to your little boy needs.

Big Hollywood : Top 10 Ways Hollywood Can Win Its Audience Back

Yes!! Am in total agreement with John about the business of Hollywood's treatment of the movie going experience, but I think society at large has a part too - and I guess the lawyers have done a good job in scaring the theatres with retribution if they actually police the theaters - ie throwing out the cell-phone users...Alamo Drafthouse made it a point they would do that and one person that they did throw out STILL didnt learn her lesson, to the point of making herself a laughing stock on a voice recording. She had been warned twice and STILL didnt get the point...some people are just too stupid to learn....but it seems the lawyers have made it where we all are forced to suffer because of them. Ive often joked that I rarely have Road Rage - what I get is Theatre Rage and am glad to know there are others who feel the same way. This if anything will keep me away from even the most talked about film...
