I'm not sweating it too much though. The fact that a bipartisan finance committee chose to follow Paul over Frank is probably the brightest spot on the political landscape in some time. This revelation leads me to believe there is only a 99.9% chance that we are totally screwed. This down from my 100% estimate just days ago.
Ron Paul is your best friend you've never met. Quixotic or not...

What a kick in the teeth to the 2000 pages of bureaucracy that will create guaranteed revenue streams for the Pharma companies. We can't let CURING illnesses get in the way of our tax dollars going towards never ending "treatments" for 350 million Americans' toe fungus and acid reflux.
Notice how recently there are treatment drugs for every malady you didn't know even existed. Now suddenly we are being told that its absolutely essential that every American has access to these treatments. So the answer, of course, is to take money from taxpayers and get every single "victim" on these treatments. Sure it LOOKS like we're just giving the Pharma companies a guaranteed and eternal revenue stream for their joke drugs, but pay no attention to that. This is about helping people...and CHANGE...

Putting political policy drops into a show like that is like putting arsenic in Hawaiian food. Its the one and only thing that could possibly make it worse...

That said however, given the fact that there is no rational reason to believe the earth is going to end in 2012, this may be something NASA is actually capable of doing without a huge explosion, people dying, gross miscalculations of risk, extreme budget overruns, or congressional investigations. And their 1980's technology should be sufficient to get the job done for the first time since the 1980s.
If NASA ever found intelligent life out there, it would bring the total to the Universe to ONE. Because people on this planet are so incomprehensibly dumb it makes by head hurt...

Newsflash, THE SIXTIES ARE OVER. This is no longer the forefront of cultural thought. You are no longer the member or a conscientious movement, and you are not changing the world. You are an old former hippie trying to continue rehash the one time in your life that you felt relevant (and its highly debatable whether or not you actually were).
However, as agonizingly pathetic as the "trapped in the sixties" mentality has made our movies, music, TV, news, and political landscape, it is only that much more ridiculous that people should be similarly nostalgic about Ceaucescu's leadership or communist veggie spread.
How funny that only hippies and communists feel this type of disingenuous nostalgia. Better to focus attention on the little things that they personally recall fondly than draw attention to the complete failure of the bigger movement. Note that conservatives don't have to wax nostalgic about free market capitalism. It has survived on its own virtues. No PR or merchandising campaigns required...

The most abundant elements in the universe are:
1. Hydrogen
2. Oxygen
3. Carbon
Its a catch 22. WE WILL NEVER SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE CO2. It is one of the most common and probable compounds in the UNIVERSE. The idea that increasing CO2 concentration by some 50 ppm in our atmosphere is throwing anything out of balance is ridiculous. In fact we LITEARALLY cannot even quantifiy how ridiculous this claim is because we don't even have numbers or mathematical concepts to adequately describe the size of the universe or the amount of carbon and CO2 already in it. Ever wonder how once tapped oil fields are suddenly full again? Ever wonder how many dinosaurs there must have been to supply the millions of gallons of fossil fuels we've pumped daily for over a hundred years?
Peak oil, Global Warming, Fossil fuels are all bull$hit fabrications. This planet itself is mostly carbon. The belief that the idiots at the UN could somehow reduce it serves only to shatter my any hope or faith I ever had that mankinds intellect will set him free. It pretty much assures me that his ignorance will enslave him ...

Furthermore, I saw the appearance you are talking about. As with all Gore appearances, the "lying vein" in the middle of his forehead was in full swell mode, his ever worsening facial contortions were fully operational, and his face repeatedly reddened then subsided as he delivered one whopper after another. Anyone with even casual knowledge of criminal psychology would have pegged him for the liar he is inside of 3 seconds. And this despite not being challenged on any of his lies.
Bot go ahead and continue to tout your idiotic world view that is apparently based on repeating someone else's 8 year old, factless statements. I guess if you believe the world is going to end in 2 weeks from global warming there is no sense wasting your time searching for a clue about reality huh...?

Good call on V. I think they are not trying too hard to hide the similarities to Obamania. I'm proud of ABC for this, as I believe they have been nurturing a conservative angle just under the surface for some time now. My understanding is that the original was based on the German Statists, but written in the late 70's in the context of the Carter Administration. As I recall, in the original miniseries, the President was Carter-esque and not a sympathetic character. What should be very scary for this Administration is that so far I have heard no vocal objection to the message it portrays. Maybe people aren't all as dumb as the folks featured above...

Now that the Repubs have a cheaper more sensible bill on the table, they don't want Americans exercising their freedom of choice anymore.
And can anyone explain the use of the terms "security and stability" beyond blatant fear mongering? What do these have to do with healthcare? Obviously the script was never intended to be used in a rational debate where well conceived alternatives were involved. Shows what kind of doublespeak garbage passes for 'democratic legislating'. I could crap a better argument...Nancy Pelosi, put out your hand....
