Andrew, I have been with BH since day one. As my year got busier and busier, I had less and less time to make my daily visits to the blogs that I enjoy. Today, this is the only one that I check daily. Thank you. Also, I would like to thank you for letting us all discover that Adam Baldwin was even cooler than we already thought he was. I swear, before him, I wasn't sure that there was anyone that well-educated in Hollywood. And thanks to all of my fellow commentors. The opening scene of Inglourious Basterds reminded me very much of the unbelievable verbal kung-fu that took place in True Romance in the scene between Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper. The whole time you are watching it, you feel like something is just not right as you know what is going on is too good to be true. When the outcome reveals itself, you can't help but be taken aback at what you have just witnessed. The giant robot chase in Terminator Salvation was an excellent example of what McG is capable of as a visual director. Unfortunately for McG, scenes like that were intermixed with ones where the characters had to talk.

I haven't seen Avatar, but the long trailer certainly betrayed its anti-American sentiment. That being said, I still don't believe that Aliens had Marxist overtones. There was one very small, very short part involving the corporate representative who quickly got his comeuppance. It was similar to the lawyer in Jurassic Park who could only see $$$ and was quickly eaten. It was not an overtone; it was a footnote.

I did not know who Mankiewicz was until he hosted At the Movies. During his year on the show, he didn't bother me too much, but he did slip his politics into the show a few times. For example, we all needed to see the "important" film "W" to fully understand what the Bush administration had done to this country. Of course, I am pretty immune to that stuff. So, I just ignored it and put him on the list of Hollywood Lefties.

Well, angry media types DID scream pretty loudly leading up to April 2003 that Saddam had WMD and was working in conjunction with AQ to nuke the US and even helped on 9/11. Did Tony Blair have a radio show? Sure, basically all the "evidence" for this turned out to be transparently phony,... So transparent that it fooled every Western intelligence agency? Where do you get your intel from? ...but the aforementioned angry media types never exactly went back and said "sorry, we got that wrong". Not sure what media types you are listening to, but I have heard many people apologize and admit that the WMD angle on Iraq was wrong and that they should have investigated better.
