Yes, i'd like to see HP's reaction. To bad the x510's are clones of the EX495. It would have been nice if they had thrown in a stacked 2 port esata port or video ( they video connector is already on the board.) Via sells a cable with their NSD-7800,
A nice little 1x5 scrolling LCD for system temp & storage would be excellent. Also a 1 touch USB backup like the Lenovo & EasyShare.
Just my wish list for a great server.

This is good, looks like competition to Via's NSD-7800, although Via has 8 sata. I'm being selfish here, but if Via can get 8 sata ports on this form factor, if it doesn't reduce transfer speeds then add 8. This way you can use the same board for a 4 & 8 bay model.
2 x eSATA external ports
This is sweet, beats Via.The ports are stacked so this minimises the PCB footprint. Now you can add a Sans Digital 8 bay esata. Would have been nice to see HP do this.
Since Lenovo & Acer have the mini PCIe, you can add the esata card that comes with the 8 bay esata enclosure and also use the 1 built in esata port so now you can have a total of 12 external drives, but 8 here is pretty good.

I like the idea of the built in PCIe slot. You can buy the SansDigital 8 bay esata enclosure that comes with a 2 port PCIe board. Since you verified that the included esata port is port multiplier aware, I can then have 12 drives on esata. NONE of HP's machines can do that.
As for streaming. As you say, not at all powerful. I've been playing around with itouch's Air Video, great program. No need to have a dedicated Converted Video folder like on the HP boxes, but I would install the server app on a more powerful MCE machine because of this and point to the network share. Less overhead.
Jim, can you confirm if the port multiplies can see a 5 bay Sans Digital esata enclosure as the Tranquil & HP 49x/x510 boxes support ? or is it only 4 bays ?
Thanks for the review.

I'd like the see the connector options added to this app. Backup Now, View Backup Status, Shared Folders
. I'll throw in my 470 icon into the icons folder and try that, but this new Win7 server icon is nice.

47x users got WebShare while 48x owners go a less powerful PhotoViewer. I was wondering what HP would do with the 49x series. Looks like they pulled it. I'm surprised. One big thing users want to do is view & organise their photos.
Do you think HP has an other trick up their sleeve to release a full function Photo Organiser ?

Also, the LX197 should be priced at $197 with 1 drive, add $60 to $80 for a second drive or let me add the second drive myself. The case is easy enough to open up.

Jim mentions up front about routers that configure properly using WHS Remote Access. We are always looking for routers that do so. That is how it is related to WHS.
A lot of work and detail has gone into this review, I am shocked that you call the review crappy.
