Big Government : Obama’s Train Wreck of a Presidency

To be honest, I don''t know the answer to your question. I don't think my overall healthplan changed all that much. I don't doubt that other peoples' experience is much worse than mine. OTOH, my own doctor just announced that he is retiring. I wonder if it has to do with reform.

My health insurance went up only about ten bucks. I work for a large retailer. I think that the big hikes happen for those not working for large companies. Am I correct?

I've been reading a lot about Woodstock lately. I find it pretty interesting. I am curious what the author of this article means by lives ruined. I also didn't know that the State of NY funded the cleanup.

Big Hollywood : 27 Minutes in the Post Office: Can't Wait for ObamaCare

There is an APU (Automated Postal Unit) at a nearby post office. It is like an ATM, just for mail. You can weight and buy postage for anything that will fit through the door of the thing, which is quite large. I use it whenever I can, and it allows me to avoid the lines and dealing with the clerks. Oh, that reminds me of a post office story that happened to me once. I got to the counter, credit card in hand, and before I had a chance to say much, the clerk whipped the card out of my hand and stuck it halfway in his credit card machine. He didn't swipe it, he just wanted to warm up my card for the big event. From that day on, I hold my card close to my side so that the clerks can't reach for it before I am ready. I have a term for a clerk who thinks they know how to swipe your card better than you do: Bully Swiper.

When it comes to overnight mail, most people don't think of the USPS. Why, pray tell, was that your choice of conveyance? FedEx and UPS are the gold standard. I get what you are saying, but you got what your paid for. PS, I read your book.

Big Hollywood : Jimmy Crowley: One Good Cop

I have read that the beer klatch was Crowley's idea, but I find the whole thing repugnant. He was doing his job and this sort of thing is below his dignity. If anything, Obama should have held a beer party with himself as the only invited guest. He'd have to look in the mirror at his own inner racist and come to terms with himself.

Big Hollywood : The Great Beer Summit of 2009

I find the whole idea of Obama as reconcialator somewhat horrifying. It is so unpresidential. The dynamics of a meeting in which two of the players are friends and co-conspirators against a blue-collar worker seems lopsided. I can't imagine what got into the officer to agree on this, or his boss to sign off on it either. Pure foolishness. Obama would have been better off to say he was wrong to step into the fray. The officer should have stayed home. Can you imagine what a beer bash would do to another sort of subject? How about pro-life forces meeting up with pro-abortion people in the white house, hosted by Obama? Doesn't it sort of trivialize the issue?

Big Hollywood : U.S.A. vs. Canada: The Healthcare Debate

I don't want universal healthcare, not because of the cost, but because of Washington's control over the states and individuals via this legislation. On the other hand, I wish that there was a more robust private purchase market out there, so that I can someday move on from my job-lock job where I get my health insurance. Maybe if the insurance companies had made such a product more available over the years and less dependent on preexisting conditions, we wouldn't be in such a mess today.

Big Hollywood : Obama’s Next Folly – Health Care

Conservatives seem to be concentrating on the costs of public healthcare, but I'd like to propose that the real issue is government intrusion into a private relationship with your doctor. Just like the abortion lobby says, government should "stay out of my body." "Well, the insurance companies play the same role as what the government proposes to do," say the pro-single payer crowd. My answer to that is that I would rather deal with an insurance company than the government on decisions regarding whether I live or die.

Big Hollywood : Time for the Amero?

Please forgive my conspiracy theory, but I think that when the monetary system goes into chaos (because, for instance, more and more money passes under the table due to high taxes and cap and trade, etc.), we will switch to a cashless system in which all transactions can be controlled. Even though I haven't called myself an evangelical in a long time, this is one prophecy of my church upbringing that has returned to haunt my mind lately. Really, it isn't too far fetched. We have the infrastructure in place already, via debit and credit cards, online billpay, direct deposit, etc. All we have to do is do away with cash, and there you go.

Big Hollywood : 'Cap and Trade': 1000+ Pages of Economic Chaos

Another thought... How elastic is the demand for energy by the American consumer? If energy costs more, will I use less of it? Or will I use the same amount of it in one area, but spend less in another? Will I drive less? Or just drive to free places instead of a restaurant? Taken to its logical extreme, if we all go home after work and stay there, not buying anything besides food, not going to movies or taking vacations, or buying nice things, then Obama gets his wish that we now are using less energy....And, half of America will be out of work because our economy thrives on people going to restaurants and movies and taking vacations, and buying nice things.

Obama and other politicians make a big thing about energy independence, the idea being that we won't have to buy energy from the bad guys. So, where does the energy go if America doesn't buy it? The bad guys use it to grow their economies, that's where! And since energy pricing is based on supply and demand, and since there will be no demand here, there will be lots of supply at cheap prices in the hands of the bad guys. It just seems to me that if energy equals economic growth, then America should buy and use as much of it as possible, so that the others don't get it.
