<title>Atheist Revolution : Asking Why</title>
<link>http://www.atheistrev.com/2012/02/asking-why.html#IDComment284703438</link>
<description>I can&amp;#039;t stand professional sports. Any professional sports. Watching a bunch of overpaid primadonnas prancing around on a field does nothing for me. If I wanted to see sports, I&amp;#039;d go out and play them myself. No thanks. As such, I haven&amp;#039;t watched a single game of any kind of sport in probably 25 years. Have no interest whatsoever in ever doing so again. So yeah, you want to waste your time watching the Super Bowl, feel free. Count me out. <title>Atheist Revolution : Do You Support Religious Businesses?</title>
<link>http://www.atheistrev.com/2012/01/do-you-support-religious-businesses.html#IDComment275042425</link>
<description>MY kids, back in the day, went to a Christian daycare. We asked the woman about it, she said she never did anything religious, but putting &amp;quot;Christian&amp;quot; in the name brought in more business from the religious wingnuts who wanted their kids there. <description>I couldn&amp;#039;t care less about the religious beliefs of a company. I buy from someone who sells a product I want at a price I&amp;#039;m willing to pay, period. <title>Atheist Revolution : Sexism in the Atheist Community: Initial Objections</title>
<link>http://www.atheistrev.com/2012/01/sexism-in-atheist-community-initial.html#IDComment266787841</link>
<description>Left off lists of influential atheists? Well how many influential, well-known atheist women are there? How many are bestselling authors? None. How many are outspoken atheist actresses or celebrities? None. How many run major atheist organizations? None. I&amp;#039;m sorry but being a blogger does not make one influential. <description>But it&amp;#039;s not just in atheism that these things happen, it&amp;#039;s everywhere. It&amp;#039;s worldwide. It always has been and I don&amp;#039;t see it changing any time soon. You don&amp;#039;t get to just wish for reality to change and have reality change. If we could, religion would already be extinct. Idealism and wanting a better world is one thing and I applaud that, but pragmatism and accepting reality as it comes is much more important. <description>The latter. Atheists have exactly one thing in common, a lack of belief in god(s). That&amp;#039;s it. I think it&amp;#039;s absurd to expect atheists, as a group, to magically be better than the typical internet asshat with no social skills. Sorry, we&amp;#039;re just not superior to everyone else. <description>Women get hit on. Sorry, welcome to reality. Whether or not they like it or not, that&amp;#039;s the current state of things, especially in groups that are very male-dominated. Women who show up tend to get propositioned. It wouldn&amp;#039;t have mattered whether it was an atheist convention or a bar. That&amp;#039;s what happens. She&amp;#039;s welcome to be uncomfortable with it and I can certainly understand and agree with her reasons, but she chose to make it a big deal. It was a minor incident that should have been forgotten about. It&amp;#039;s the fact that it wasn&amp;#039;t that caused the problem. <description>Unfortunately, when you have a male-dominated activity that is also the primary social mechanism for a lot of these guys, any woman who shows up at these events is going to get pounced on. I&amp;#039;m sure a lot of the jokes that are told can be chalked up to these guys just being entirely clueless socially. This is very commonplace where you have a lot of very smart, but otherwise socially inexperienced guys. As much as they are at these atheist events to learn and participate, they are also there to get laid. It represents one of their few opportunities. The same thing happens in lots of other interests. It&amp;#039;s just not limited to atheism. <description>The problem is, any activity that caters more to, or appeals more to, one gender than the other, is going to be naturally more biased toward that gender. This is true for both male and female activities. I&amp;#039;m sure knitting and cross-stitching communities aren&amp;#039;t that open to male members, in fact, I&amp;#039;ve been to one or two cross-stitching shows with my wife and I was probably the only guy there. The only way you&amp;#039;re going to get any kind of gender equality, if such things is even worth considering, is for more women to get involved. The same thing can be said for racial equity. Many have noted that there aren&amp;#039;t that many black atheists. Does this make atheism racist too? Of course not. <description>They weren&amp;#039;t &amp;quot;wrong&amp;quot; to pull their advertising, Lowes is in business to make money and if they perceive, rightly or wrongly, that some of their advertising may cost them money, they&amp;#039;re perfectly within their rights to redirect their advertising efforts. Virtually no big company is actually trying to support the TV shows they advertise on, they are trying to attract customers. <title>Atheist Revolution : Maybe Christmas Should be Time to Reconsider Consumer Culture</title>
<link>http://www.atheistrev.com/2011/12/maybe-christmas-should-be-time-to.html#IDComment236005679</link>
<description>Both of those people are idiots, sorry. Complaining because you choose to put yourself into those situations is no one&amp;#039;s fault but their own. If you go out and spend money you don&amp;#039;t have on something you don&amp;#039;t need, simply to please someone else, you&amp;#039;re a moron. Secondly, no one knows why the first lady lost her job, everyone assumes it&amp;#039;s a bad economy, but maybe she was fired for cause, maybe she was stealing from her company or was incompetent at her job. Funny how those possibilities are never raised, it&amp;#039;s just assumed that they downsized and we should feel bad for her. In the second case, if she hates the crowds so much, why is she out in them? People create their own problems. Walmart has an online retail presence, she could just as easily log on, buy whatever she wanted and have it shipped to her house. The same is true of *ALL* other retailers. Heck, I haven&amp;#039;t gone into a big box store after Thanksgiving in more than a decade. Why bother? Why get stressed? You do it to yourself. <description>Unfortunately, the people I end up dealing with are the loony way-out folks who do accept YEC, who do believe Noah&amp;#039;s ark is real, etc. 99.99999999% wrong to them means that there&amp;#039;s a 0.0000000001% chance they&amp;#039;re right and that&amp;#039;s all they need. <link>http://www.atheistrev.com/2011/08/what-is-your-argument-against-god.html#IDComment187454080</link>
<description>That&amp;#039;s exactly what I&amp;#039;m going through in a debate right now and I just posted something like that a few minutes ago. Theists seem to think that religion is inherently different than, say Bigfoot or alien abductions. You can reject belief in Bigfoot based on a lack of evidence, but in order to reject God, you have to actively claim that God isn&amp;#039;t real and thus, you have to prove it. These people are just not real swift. <title>Atheist Revolution : Why Are Atheists Speaking Out?</title>
<link>http://www.atheistrev.com/2011/08/why-are-atheists-speaking-out.html#IDComment181911903</link>
<description>The reason more of us are speaking out is because more of us has the ability to do so, given the advent of the Internet. There was a time when speaking out was difficult, it could cost you your job, your social standing, etc. Today, anyone can log on and speak their mind and not be censored and not suffer any negative repercussions. It&amp;#039;s no wonder more people are speaking out today. Add to that the fact that there are more atheists today, it&amp;#039;s gained some measure of social acceptability, especially given major failures and scandals in religion. If it wasn&amp;#039;t for pedophile priests and fundamentalist crazies, many atheist would have no reason to open their mouths. It&amp;#039;s not about atheists being vocal, it&amp;#039;s about theists being such absolute failures. <link>http://www.atheistrev.com/2011/05/atheists-thrown-under-bus-by.html#IDComment153595521</link>
<description>The problem is, I don&amp;#039;t know that we do. Atheism is the lack of belief in god(s), full stop. Beyond that, there is nothing that we can count upon that all, or even a majority of atheists share in common. Sure, you might be able to take a couple of issues and find some general common ground, but even with that, you&amp;#039;ll find lots of atheists who have different views. There&amp;#039;s plenty of highly-conservative atheists out there, you know. </description>
