AfricanLoft : "Blacks Without Borders" Receives Cold Reception From South African Media

Thanks Dave & Kwabena. The silence is strange indeed. South Africans write about 60% of the blogs in Africa (according to Afrigator numbers). Compared to other Africans, they have the best access to the Internet, good broadband connections and generally more web savvy. Yet, one even one report about the movie. Kwabena, other African blogs and media houses can be excused but not the South Africans!

AfricanLoft : New York Post's Cartoon - Offensive and Racial?

I think the cartoon spiteful, insensitive and racist! Who just signed a stimulus bill? Barack Obama. By deduction Obama is being depicted as dead chimpanzee. Period. This is grossly distasteful -- and it doesn't matter if it was George Bush that signed the stimulus bill, it would be wrong still!!!

Paul, I thnk the fight is for each national government to tackle - in collaboration with international social advocacy groups. Africans in Diaspora can surely increase awareness, I doubt if their actions will directly effect changes where it matters.

Mootbox | 80% Development Matter, 20% assorted randomness : Bankole vs. Enang: The Route To Economic Recovery

The exchange is interesting. But so what? The two can have all talks, what happens the next day? Will this dialogue translate into action? If it wouldn't, then it is a waste of time and our money Though I'm not an economist, what I know is this: we can not ignore the fact that our infrastructure is in shambles. Until we address transportation (particularly railways) and energy issues, we aren't going far.

Unfortunately Saul we don;t live in a fair world. The strongest will always get to survive and eat the fruits of the land. Sad, but this is the reality of our world. The vacuum of power in Somalia must be addressed to stop what worries you, that is the only way out. Forget about the AU or UN, only the Somalis and neighboring states can solve the plunder and degradation off the coast.

AfricanLoft : Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria's Former Anti-Corruption Boss Fired from Police Force

The Ribadu story is another sad reminder of how rotten Nigeria is. I have come to realize that the sleaze hole may be deeper than most have assumed. The powers that brought Ribadu down are many and operates beyond the confines of the Nigerian Police Force - people like Ibori and Odili I'm sure pulled some strings too to get him out. I have come to see, and sadly too, that high-stakes portfolio like EFCC needs some "protection" from the hawks within the polity to be successful -- and this was what the former president did very well, and may be a little too well. Obasanjo gave Ribadu protection and also manipulated him for his own selfish interests. Now that that veneer of protection has been removed, it was no surprise that Ribadu got rubbished and saw himself looking at the other end of the gun barrel. Ribadu is lucky that he somehow survived the first shot, and I'm sure he knows what to do to avoid the second -- which most likely will be more devastating. He must rescue himself.

Mootbox | 80% Development Matter, 20% assorted randomness : Jos: Why Can't We All Get Along

Poverty and religious differences can't cause this sort of fracas without some catalysts - the elites and politicians - whose venom when introduced to the mix cause blood to flow! No matter how much well off the people are and how high the standard of living is, as long as there are elements within the political and religious class that sees politics and religion as a do-or-die matter, there can't be rest. It is a shame it has come to a sad point that I switch off when I read this sort riots - it is totally meaningless!
