So... how many times do you think we take something the Bible teaches and add our own "human" (or pharisee) spin to it. True, there are verses about spiritual gifts. Instead of listening to a bunch of teaching on the subject and reading stacks of books about it, what would happen if we just asked God about it. Talked to Him. Listened to the Spirit's lead. We know He will not muddle things up like we do.

Thank you for sharing this! I was truly moved. I'm going to show it to my kids and husband when they get home this afternoon. As much as I love to laugh at the funny things you write, I always look forward to serious Wednesdays. Today is just one of those days I am touched. Thank you for being a "blogger for Jesus"! (I'm sure it isn't one of the "spiritual gifts" listed in scripture, but somehow, I think it is yours!) The gift of blogging.

Funny! And unfortunately, true too often. Long legs, needing to sprint to the bathroom... those reasons have been mentioned for sitting on the edges (and probably back rows), but what other reasons do people feel the "need" to be the person on the edge? I'm a front of the church kind of person, but that probably comes from manditory seating for a former PK.

What's so Amazing About Grace - Phillip Yancey (Showed me what true grace looks like)
Blue Like Jazz - Donald Miller (I loved the rawness of his writing mixed with humor and truth)
The Calling of Dan Matthews - Harold Bell Wright (This "old" book helped me wrestle with the balance between serving God and being a slave to the church. Something us PK's muddle up sometimes...)
The Singer - Calvin Miller (Very poetic but beautifully contimplative)
There is no way to pick only one!

Your transparancy is what we love about this blog! I truly believe the christian community uses an invisible measuring stick with ourselves and others. If we are one in a line of speakers, there is this strange "I need to be the best speaker" and when we are one of many musicians leading music we think "I need to be the most moving worship leader" and when we are hanging out with a group of moms we think "I need to have the best behaved children". It unfortunately becomes about US being the best instead of looking at Who really IS the best! The Lamb!
I really like the phrase..."living for the audience of One." Simple in concept, but so tough to do since we battle against our arrogance and pride. Thanks for this post! It was a clear reminder of who really is the best! Our God IS an awesome God!!!
