If I seen one set of kids amazing-dancing, I've seen them all. My kid was doing this at six months. Or not. But he can butcher the song Twinkle Twinkle little star!

it is just a great way to get around having to stack and fold chairs. They didn't have those in the 1st century. Or he's just not too keen on PowerPoint.

Wait, "Normal" is a weird way to end that saga. You said rapper and John Lennon, and then tossed a "normal" curveball at us. My head hurts.

I think that right now I am technically a part of two church plants. I help lead the worship as a fill in at one, and we are considering joining the other. So, yeah.

forgot, no. had someone turn off the lights during my set rendering the music stand I have in front of me completely useless? yes. But my next words (into the mic) were "please turn the lights back on." I can't lead without song sheets in front of me.

It's almost never that, for me as a worship leader. In fact, it's the opposite. I don't want people to hear me anymore, I want them to hear the guy beside them. It's corporate worship. It doesn't stroke my ego at all if a congregations knows all of the words to "How Great Thou Art." If I was singing a song I wrote, I could see that being a problem.

Totally agree. When I am in the band, I love to hear something other than my monitor. When I am in the audience, I love to hear something other than the people on stage. It's corporate worship, not a concert. But I've been guilty of backing away from a mic before people really know the tune. That's a musical train wreck. Only on songs the congregation knows well does it serve to expand worship.

<serious theological buzzkill> I'm amillenialist, so when I think the rapture happened, I just scold myself for bad theology. </serious> That said, there were some really funny lines in that post, brother. Loved the hymntigration. Invented a word for it, I loved it so much.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Church Names.

I've been going to a church named "Trinity Park" which is handy, because you know they are trinitarian, and you also know they have swings or horseshoe pits. Or cast iron grills and unisex restrooms that both need cleaning.

I'm pretty big on doing something awkward during the very first meeting. For example: the opposite of Point 1. Sob. But not about anything important, about American Idol, or Kanye. Another example might be wearing a beret or cummerbund and pretending it's totally normal. Exotic facial hair will work, unless you are in youth ministry, because that, um, is normal. That makes for good "the first time I met you..." stories a few years down the road. Or, it makes for a really short first meeting with no subsequent meetings.

Yeah, I got a nickname that way once. My name is Ben, and I have a son named Ben, but during prayer time I was referred to as "Big Shane." There are still some folks that call me big Shane, as a result.
