Wow, I just posted a comment saying basically the same thing you did, and I didn't even see your comment until just now. I guess there must be many of us with the same thoughts. Didn't start out as fans of Palin, but the irrational level of hate directed at her seems to be having the opposite effect that they (the left) intended.

CNN's angle was an ironic one--that no one in Hong Kong knew who she was, [so she must be irrelevant--yet here they were reporting on it]. The segment consisted of a reporter walking the streets of Hong Kong, showing random passersby a photo of Palin, asking if they know who she is. Not one of them did. The WSJ did a piece on her visit, where they quoted one of the organizers as saying they invited her b/c she is an interesting figure, etc., etc. Past guests have included Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Alan Greenspan. CNN made it seem like she's some pathetic little person who went where she wasn't on anyone's radar, at her own behest, to broaden her foreign policy credentials. (sound familiar?) Yet there is other coverage on cnn.com with the headline, "Palin causes stir in Hong Kong." First she's an irrelevant nobody who no one will pay attention to, then she causes a stir. Which is it?

Oddly, I despised the thought of Palin as McCain's running mate. I knew from day one the media was going to cream her, and that McCain gave the election to Obama by throwing away his #1 weapon (the experience argument). As a moderate, I view some of her positions as those of a right wing nutter. That said, all the unwarranted, over-the-top vitriol directed toward her by the mainstream media (this incl. Hollywood) has had the effect of putting me in her corner. The bias and dishonesty of the media was breathtaking. Anyone being honest will admit the media always had a leftist tilt, but they took it to unprecedented heights this past election cycle. I will vote for her over whomever they support, b/c there must be something wrong with any candidate supported by the likes of the infantile and dishonest media at large. For them to stoop to such low levels and resort to such deceptive tactics speaks volumes about the type of people they are, and also why they did it. Clearly they are afraid of her, and they don't feel she can be defeated solely on the merits, via unbiased reporting.
